Former Nigeria international Yakubu Aiyegbeni has said it is important for Arsenal to sign a new striker to boost their chances of winning the title.
The Gunners are looking to win their first Premier League title in 21 years.
Mikel Arteta’s side moved within four points of leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand following Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Aiyegbeni believed Arsenal needs more firepower upfront to challenge for the title.
“This season is proving to be quite challenging. When you look at how Liverpool are performing, they’re dropping points little by little. It’s an opportunity for Arsenal to capitalise on that,” Aiyegbeni told Flashcore.com.
“We’ve seen in the past few seasons – last year, two years ago, and three years ago – Arsenal putting pressure on Manchester City. Right now, City aren’t in the best form; they’re struggling.
“For Arsenal (to win the league), it’s just a matter of getting a striker. Once they do, I believe they can push Liverpool all the way to the end.”
The London club will welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates on Saturday.
