Former Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi’s fortunes have not improved since leaving the Gunners after he was relegated with Schalke and named “relegated player of the season”.
Mustafi left Arsenal having endured a difficult few years in which minutes were hard to come by.
He joined Schalke but was unable to help them escape the drop as they finished with just 16 points from 34 games.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was named as player of the year with 74 per cent of the votes and best newcomer went to his Bayern team-mate, 18-year-old Jamal Musiala.

Mustafi only joined the club in February after his Arsenal contract was terminated but still claimed his award with 13.3% of the overall vote.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner , who joined the Gunners for £35m in 2016, failed to live up to expectations at the Emirates and became known for his error-strewn performances.
Things have hardly improved at Schalke and the club announced last month that he would be released.
Mustafi only signed a deal until the end of the campaign, but failed to make an impression and was guilty of a shocking own goal in a 5-0 defeat to Wolfsburg.
Sead Kolasinac also spent the year at Schalke but was only on loan so is expected to return to Arsenal.
