Lucas Torreira will miss Arsenal’s next three league matches after the club failed in their attempts to get his ban overturned.
The Uruguay international, who has received rave reviews since arriving at the Emirates Stadium from Sampdoria last summer, picked up the suspension after being shown a straight red card following a late challenge on Tottenham’s Danny Rose during the closing stages of Saturday’s north London derby at Wembley.
The Gunners appealed referee Anthony Taylor’s decision but the Football Association have now decided to uphold the official’s original call, which means Torreira will miss Arsenal’s upcoming league games against Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton.

Torreira’s ban does not affect his involvement in European competition, which means he is available for the first leg of Arsenal’s Europa League last-16 tie with Rennes at Roazhon Park on Thursday.
Given his unavailability for domestic matches over the next few weeks, it is expected the 23-year-old will start the game in France.
