It was not the best of returns to Premier League football for Joe Aribo and Southampton following the Saint’s 3-1 home loss to Brighton and Hove Albion on Boxing Day.
Going into the fixture, Southampton had failed to win any of their last four Premier League games (three defeats and one draw).
Aribo was introduced into the game for Mali’s Moussa Djenepo before the start of the second half.
Brighton opened scoring on 14 minutes through
Adam Lallana who guided his header into the far corner, converting Solly March’s cross.
In the 35th minute Southampton went 2-0 down after Romain Perraud turned into his own net, trying to clear a cross from the left-hand side.
Bright then went 3-0 ahead in the 56th minute after March cut in from the right-hand side and unleashed a rasping shot into the top corner.

Southampton pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute as James Ward-Prowse nodded in a rebound after his penalty was initially saved by
Robert Sanchez.
At Goodison Park, Alex Iwobi featured for 90 minutes but could not prevent Everton from losing 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A 95th minute goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri saw Wolves come from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1.
Terry Mina opened the scoring in the 7th minute before Daniel Podence equalized for Wolves on 22 minutes.
Everton have now lost three straight Premier League games.
And at the King Power stadium, Super Eagles duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho came on in the second half in Leicester City’s 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
While Iheanacho came on in the 71st minute, Ndidi was brought on a minute after his compatriot.
Chris Wood gave Newcastle the best start after he converted a 3rd minute penalty following a foul on Joelington by Daniel Amartey.
Just four minutes after the opener, Newcastle doubled their lead thanks to Miguel Almiron who slotted past Danny Ward.
The loss halted Leicester’s run of two consecutive Premier League wins.
And in other results, Tottenham Hotspur came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Brentford and Fulham thrash nine-man Crystal Palace 3-0.

LMFAO..
I REMEMBER during a PRE SEASON TOUR when ARIBO SCORED a SPECTACULAR GOAL.
Some UNKNOWN PUNDITS here started HYPING him, calling HIM OKOCHA, HE will do WELL and all that…
I was just LAUGHING…
WE all WARNED HIM and AWONIYI but it all FELL on DEAF EARS…
They should have remained at RANGERS and BERLIN RESPECTIVELY…
This isn’t about Aribo’s quality. It’s the team’s overall performance.
Those who hyped him were right to do so considering the goal’s beauty.
Besides, Southampton was a decent team prior to Aribo’s move. Hence, I won’t really blame him for making such move. Hopefully, they will escape the drop.
As for Awoniyi, it was an ill-advised move because we all know Forest need more than a miracle to survive the drop.
Awoniyi had better options, according to reports. Choosing Forest was not a good one.
Hopefully, he will do well to attract a new suitor if they fail to stay in the League.

Who’s been following Akpom’s progress since joining Middlesbrough? The guy has been on fire playing behind the striker
Well said Brodaman. Chuba Akpom and Josh Maja should be invited to the Super Eagles. They are far better than Moffi and Osimhen.
Yes akpom. Is on my list .
Who’s this ndi alaba passeiro? Which list are you talking about?
Leceister, Southampton, Nottingham forest, and Everton are all in the relegation zone coupled with the fact that we have a couple of players already in the championship lol…….One of these 4 clubs will definitely be relegated this season…..I hope all Nigerian players can stay afloat but it seems one is going down for sure…
@footballfanatics, Leicester is not in relegation zone, but the club has had a poor start to this year season.
