Nigerian midfielder, Afeez Aremu, is eager to score more goals for his Norwegian second tier league side, IK Start, after netting his first of the 2019 season in their 2-1 away win against Raufoss at Nammo Stadium on Sunday, Completesports.com reports.
Raufoss scored first through Kristoffer Nesso in the 18th minute before Iceland international Aron Sigurdason equalized for IK start 10 minutes after the halftime break.
Aremu who played the entire duration of the match scored the winner for Start in the 77th minute with a terrific strike that became a talking point after the game.
It was Aremu’s first goal of the 2019 season for Start. The former Flying Eagles midfielder has has played 17 matches this term, and he is confident more goals will come from him.
“I only score nice goals!,” a happy Aremu told IK Start official website after the match.
“It was amazing! I am so happy. We had to work hard for the victory, they created some problems for us.”
Asked to talk more about his beautiful goal, he added: “I knew I got really good hits. In those situations I always think about shooting, I’ve scored many similar goals in my career. But it was wonderfully delicious to have it go in.”
The 19 year old also celebrated his first goal of the season on Twitter: “+3 points today with a winning goal. Still counting,” Aremu tweeted on his handle, @Afeez154.
The win at Raufoss moved Start to second position in the 16-team Obos-Ligaen (Norwegian second tier Division 1) with 42 points from 20 matches, behind leaders, Aalesund, who have 50 points with a game in hand.
The club was relegated to the second tier league after finishing 15th in the 16-team premier division – the Eliteserien last season. They’re currently on course in their bid to earn promotion back to the top league.
They will host Sogndal in their next Obos-Ligaen match on Saturday, 31 August.
Aremu played for NPFL sides, Sunshine Stars, Rivers United and Akwa United before joining IK Start in 2018.
