After winning the Nigerian league and the domestic cup titles seven times apiece, Enyimba chairman Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu, says they’re still very ambitious to wrestle diadem this term, Completesports.com reports.
Anyansi, an executive committee member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who has overseen Enyimba winning 27 trophies so far in his 19-year reign so far, says bringing in young players to the squad this term is meant to add dept, strength and bite to the squad of a club who have won the CAF Champions League twice – the only Nigerian club to have reached that height.
“Coaches sometimes set target for themselves and their clubs. But for us in Enyimba, our target is always driven by our ambition to first of all do well – be among the best, if not the best,” Anyansi stated.
“Every year, we look forward to winning at least a trophy. So that’s our target. It is an ambition embedded in Enyimba philosophy.
And every coach who comes to Enyimba understands that.”
People’s Elephant’s Technical Adviser, Usman Abdallah, refreshed the squad prior to the start of the 2018/2019 NPFL season with young players.
Anyansi agrees the gaffer made a smart reinforcement on the squad.
“I understand where the coach is coming from. He wants to build a team that can retain its shape, strength and quality for like two, three years or even more,” he said.
“That does not mean he wants to build a team without getting the result. He’s going to cope. He’s a very smart person.
“I’ve a lot of respect for him, having interacted with him.”
Enyimba’s eighth NPFL title ambition is buoyed by the return of the club to their fortress home, the Enyimba International Stadium Aba , after a three season sojourn in Calabar and Port Harcourt.

“Don’t forget that for a very long time, we didn’t start the season at our own stadium,” the club boss recalls.
“But now, we are back to our own stadium and even started with a win. What matters now are the three points, a win is a win, it doesn’t matter how many goals.
“It is said that good beginning, makes a good ending.
“We hope to do it match after match.”
KEnyimba will host Lobi Stars in a match day four NPFL clash on Wednesday in Aba.
It will be Enyimba’s third match of the season while Lobi Stars will taste the abridged new season for the very first time following their CAF Champions League duties.
The People’s Elephant are currently in the second position in the NPFL Group A table on three points from two matches, behind Kwara United, but with a game in hand.

Okay, a very good philosophy of a team that has so many prospect and respect not just in Nigeria, but, in Africa.
Enyimba still remains my club in Nigeria and Africa, even though Lobi Stars is my state CLUB. I hope we top our group table and represent the country this time and do better, given the fact that, our stadium is one of the best in Nigeria.
