Greek-born Nigerian professional basketball player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has expressed his excitement, with tears of joy, after he helped Greece end a 16-year hiatus to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics Men’s Basketball event.
Completesports.com reports that Greece, Brazil, Bahamas and Lithuania secured the four available tickets for the forthcoming Paris Olympics billed to get underway from July 26 until August 10.
Reflecting on his team’s impressive run, the Milwaukee Bucks’ power forward and two-time NBA MVP burst into tears, extolling the commitment of his team to secure the ticket.
“It’s incredible. Having my teammates, who have been great guys, wanting to do something memorable, doing it in our house, with our families here, with such a fanbase, it’s an incredible feeling. You just got to take this feeling and have it in our minds,” Antetokounmpo told Basketnews.com.
He described qualifying for the Olympics as an honour, saying his ambition is poised toward making a difference.
“That’s an honour. In the Olympics, the best athletes in the world compete. If I’m the flag-bearer, great. If I’m not, it’s ok.
“I want to go to the Olympics, compete, and try to make something happen. But I’ll enjoy every moment,” Antetokounmpo concluded excitedly.
