Teenage wildcard Bianca Andreescu completed a memorable week by beating Angelique Kerber in the Indian Wells Masters final on Sunday. The 18-year-old Canadian claimed a 6-4 3-6 6-4 success over her German opponent to seal her first ever title on the WTA Tour.
Andreescu looked like she might have missed her opportunity when she squandered three match points on her own serve during the final set, but she responded by immediately breaking back to seal the victory after two hours and 20 minutes on court.

The victory was made even more remarkable as Andreescu had been ranked outside the world’s top 150 at the start of 2019, but she has now moved up to 24th and she has labelled her meteoric rise as ‘crazy’. “It’s crazy,” Andreescu said.
“Crazy is the word of the tournament for me. Just crazy. “If you believe in yourself, anything is possible.” The teenager, who also beat Elina Svitolina and Garbine Muguruza en route to the final, has now set her sights on winning a first Grand Slam title, although she is yet to make it beyond the second round of one of the big four events. She added: “The next is a Grand Slam. Let’s see where this can take me.”
