Anderson sustained the injury at the Australian Open during his second-round defeat to American Frances Tiafoe.
He claimed victory at the Long Island event which played a key role in kick-starting his 2018 campaign, which saw him reach the final at Wimbledon.
Tiafoe has been added to the field for the tournament which gets underway on Sunday.
