Barcelona defender, Marcos Alonso is reportedly leaving the club to join Atletico Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
The 33-year-old’s current contract at the Catalan club is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Alonso has had difficulty getting regular minutes at Barca, hence it is believed he won’t be extending his stay with the Laliga giants.
According to SPORT as reported by Barca News Network, Alonso will sign a free agent contract with Atletico this summer following his contract expiration at Barca.

The defender can travel to the Spanish capital this summer to join his former Chelsea teammate Cesar Azpilicueta, as talks between the player and the Rojiblancos are going extremely well.
Barca are hoping to add fresh faces to their current squad and they can only do that by selling off players to reduce their wage bill.
A forward and a midfielder are the Blaugrana club’s top priorities. So they will need to make player sales in order to acquire the players they want from the market.
Alonso, who currently earns €120,000 per week will most likely not have his existing deal extended which will free up funds for the club.

Since joining Barcelona two years ago, the Spaniard has failed to secure a significant role in the team. He has only made seven appearances this season due to injuries that have severely limited him.
Even after being discharged from the hospital at the beginning of March, he has not been able to play due to lumbar problems that required surgery in January.
Prior to his move to Spain, Alonso won numerous trophies at Chelsea with the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League titles among the laurels won at the west-London club.
