Alnwick, who made 27 appearances for the Wanderers during the last campaign, could now leave on a free transfer as the club look to trim their wage bill. The 32-year-old is wanted by Huddersfield, Charlton Athletic and Wigan Athletic this summer and Town are hoping their superior position will see them win the race.
Regular Huddersfield stopper Jonas Lossl has already agreed to join Everton, while Ben Hamer also faces an uncertain future. Town boss Jan Siewert is now looking at other options and Alnwick tops the list due to the lack of a transfer fee.
