Former CHAN Eagles duo, Chisom Chikatara, a striker and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, a midfielder, have returned to the domestic top flight, Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, after spells abroad and have penned deals with Akwa United, an official of the Promise Keepers has confirmed exclusively to completesports.com.
Chikatara, who will be 25 on November 24, alongside Ifeanyi, 24, were part of Nigeria’s home based Super Eagles team that featured in the 2016 Championship for African Nations, CHAN, held in Kigali, Rwanda.
Chikatara spent four seasons at Abia Warriors (2012-2016) before a move to Moroccan side, Wydad Athletic Casablanca, WAC (2016-2018).before a move to El Gouna of Egypt in 2018, spending the 2019 season on loan at Tala’ea El Gaish, also of Egypt.
In 2014, Chikatara made the U23 national team cut before he was called up to the CHAN Eagles squad in 2015.
Similarly, Ifeanyi, midfielder, started off with MFM of Lagos in2016 before switching his career service to Akwa United in 2017.
After two seasons that was made remarkable with the 2017 Federation Cup win with the Promise Keepers, and a stint in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2018, Ifeanyi moved to Algerian giants, Entente Sportive Setifienne, in early 2019.
However, the two players are now back in the domestic NPFL with Akwa United.
“Yes, Chikatara is here training with us”, Duke Udi, Akwa United chief Coach told completesports.com Monday afternoon.
“Also, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is with us. We hope they will help us with their huge experiences.
“It is also our expectation that aside their efforts and help, we will get help from God which is most important for us to do well this coming season”, Udi prayed.
