Nigerian duo of Kanyinsola Ajayi and Olayinka Olajide have qualified for the men’s and women’s 100 metres final of the 2024 African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon on Saturday.
Competing in the men’s semi-finals, Ajayi finished second with a time of 10.03 seconds behind Côte d’Ivoire’s Ismael Kone.
Olajide also finished second in the women’s 100m semis to qualify for the final.
She recovered from a poor start and almost ran down Claudine Njarasoa of Madagascar who ran a personal best of 11.35 seconds.
Meanwhile, Samuel Ogazi is safely through to the men’s 400m semi-finals at the African Championships.
Ogazi finished second behind Kenya’s Kelvin Kipkorir who ran 46.13 seconds to win his heat.
Also, Dubem Amene crossed the line in 46.13 seconds to win the men’s 400m Heat 3.
