Falconets midfielder Taiwo Afolabi has celebrated her club Delta Queens’ qualification for the final of the WAFU B Champions League on Tuesday, August 29 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Delta Queens beat Ivory Coast club Athletico FC 3-2 in the semi-final of the competition.
Melissa Behinan scored to put Athletico ahead in the fifth minute and Mercy Omokwo equalised for Delta Queens in the 68th minute.
Omokwo’s second goal of the match in the 98th minute put her side ahead for the first time in the encounter.
Afolabi scored to further increase the Nigerian club’s lead in the 106th minute.
However Joy Sunday scored in the 114th minute to make the game 3-2.
Afolabi who is the skipper of the team was named as Player of the Match.
She took to Twitter to show her delight after she and her teammates reached the final of the tournament.
“It was an astonishing win and performance from Delta Queens as we zoom to the final of the WAFU B Champions League and it’s a memorable day for me to win the Player of the Match Award. Kudos to my teammates for the gallantry display,” Afolabi, a member of the Flamengoes squad to the 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Tweeted.
They will play Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU B Champions League final.
The winner of the final will represent WAFU Zone B in the CAF Women’s Champions League main tournament which will be held in Ivory Coast from November 5 to November 19.
This is the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
