Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie can’t hide his disappointment after the Cheetahs failed to beat Nigeria on Thursday night.
The Cheetahs were held to a 1-1 draw by the Super Eagles in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying contest.
Mohammed Tijani opened scoring for the hosts on 16 minutes, while Victor Osimhen equalised for Nigeria eight minutes from time.
“It is not a bad result in itself. Now we will have to go and play this final in Libya. It is certain that at 1-0, we would have hoped to win this match,”Mounie said after the game.

“We had very clear chances to kill the match. When you play against Nigeria and you do not kill the match, that is how it is.”
Gernot Rohr’s men will now need to beat Libya in Tripoli next week Monday to guarantee a place at the AFCON 2025 finals.
Mounie believed that the task is achievable even though he admitted it will be tough.
“We agree on the pitch that it is a fight. They also want to play for their qualification. We know that it will not be an easy match. We will have to have strong nerves,he added.
