Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo says the team must strive to have a good start at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time African champions are pitted in Group C with Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.
“A good start is very important. The first two games are very important. It is very, very crucial,”Yobo told ESPN.

“But the Tunisia game could be the one that decides group winners, so if we can take six points from the other two, we don’t want to chase Tunisia.
“That is obviously a big game. They are an experienced side, always frequent at the AFCON. We are used to them, we have played them many times, even during my own time and they are used to us as well. So it’s going to be a big clash. It’s the biggest game in our group.
“That being said you have Uganda and Tanzania. On paper they might be the underdogs but we saw at the last AFCON, underdogs were pulling surprises.”
The Super Eagles will begin their campaign against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Fez on Tuesday, December 23.

NFF should please contract a permanent coach for Super Falcons and not wait till dying minutes. From my observation, Nigeria Ex international footballer a female and a coach with good football credentials will do a good job.We have them all over right now.Better still, let them go for a known foreign coach with track records. Before Waldrum,we never knew our girls could defend even against super powers female football nations,we need a coach that will take the team to the next level.
We also have some talented foreign based players who are willing to play for Nigera, let NFF go for them.As long as they want to play for us and are good enough, why not.Even if they are not naturally Nigerians black or white.
Where did you come from? Mars? Lol. My take is NFF is ready to sink and swim with Magudu, the so-called “interim” coach.
I really don’t know why they have settled for him. Waldrums Falcons would have had a fear factor in the next wafcon in June or so but I know NFF wanted him to back off rather than the health issue
We are resigned to seeing Magudu on the bench. Some people here are rooting for him because he is “our own”, not me though because he is “untested” and I don’t see how NFF will not “dictate” to him who he should and not call up
Well, wafcon is a good test ground to see if falcons fortunes (FIFA rankings) will either be enhanced or nosedive.
“Our own” has never been known to stand up to NFF at any level. That’s why I’ve always stood with Waldrum when he refused to call up renowned names but too flippant.
Let’s test Magudu sha
