Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze says Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is under pressure to score goals at the AFCON 2023.
Heading into this year’s tournament Osimhen was tipped as one of players to fight for the top scorer award.
However, Osimhen has only managed to score one goal and has missed numerous scoring chances.
Reflecting on Osimhen’s performance after three group games, Udeze believes his inability to score more goals is affecting his confidence.
“For me Osimhen is under pressure, that’s why he is trying everything possible to score,” Udeze said on Brila FM.
“The pressure is affecting him and I think his confidence level has dropped a little bit whenever he faces the opponent goal post, so he needs to get his confidence back.”

The FIFA 2002 World Cup star however said he still has confidence in the striker.
He added:“Osimhen is a very good player and I believe in him and I wish him all the best.“
Osimhen will hope to find his scoring boot as the three-time AFCON champions head into the round of 16.
The Eagles finished the group stage on seven points after three games, scoring three goals and conceded one goal.

When you look at the physicaltrajectory or let me even say progression, Osimhen shoulders a greater responsibility than just scoring as he carries the entire team on his shoulders as can be seen from his ball distributions to his mates despite not getting the required feeds(its obvious all the players are under pressure to score too). A workerholic whose heart is getting the team to the highest apogee. My gut feeling yells at me Osimhen’s goals will start coming in from the 2nd one round. Go go go Osimhen, goooooooo Eagles, fly into the future.
The fact will ever remains that victor Osimen is responsible for our being in the tournament till yet. He scored the first goal against E. Guinea and also caused the penalty out evervisent wall, Ekong buried behind the Ivorians. My advise is for us to concentrate on the remaining games.
Osimhen needs to have a chart with senior Ighalo at this point. His actions on the field of play will certainly determine how far we go in this competition.
Osimhen needs real support by an excellent forwards to unlink his blockade and to finish his pressure, so I recommend coach Peseiro to put Ahmed Musa and Iheancho or Moffi to unlink Osimhen blockade then they can grant him with clam and easy passes to score goals , also they can unlink this blockade by competitors by pressing on them , so Osimhen will find good space to score goals, also Peseiro must instruct Musa and Iheancho as wingers to cross clam lobs balls for him to head easily, also these instructs Aina, Sanusi and Bassey to as the same thing, all thoes will accrue their fruits on the coming matches.
What is all these nonsense about Osimehn not getting supplies? You people say that crap when he is playing for his club too…..I can count 3 solid times Osimehn was played through and wasted the chances, probably more than 3 times….This is tournament football you think other defenders are fools just waiting for Osimehn to get supplies…You don’t get too many chances in a tournament it’s left to the players to take these opportunities. I expect Cameroon to fight tooth and nail..
