Stanley Nwabali is expected to be in goal when the Super Eagles take on Angola in their quarter-final tie at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.
There were fears the Chippa United goalie could miss the clash with the Black Antelopes after sustaining a mild ligament injury in Nigeria’s Round of 16 victory against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon last Saturday.
Nwabali however took part in the team’s training session on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The 27-year-old has also been cleared by the team’s medics to face Pedro Goncalves’ men.

The shot stopper has conceded just once in four outings at the AFCON 2023 finals.
Meanwhile captain Ahmed Musa and Bright Osayi-Samuel have been ruled out of the game.
Musa injured his thigh in training this week, while Osayi-Samuel is nursing a knee injury.
Musa is yet to make an appearance for the Super Eagles in Cote d’Ivoire.
Osayi-Samuel has made two appearances for the three-time African champions in the competition.

Musa is gradually becoming one of the team technical adviser.
***AHMED MUSA INJURY NEWS IS A STUPID NEWS. BECAUSE HE IS IRRELEVANT IN THAT TEAM. A COACH PERFORMS HIS COACHING ROLE ON BENCH(not field), WHILE A PLAYER PERFORMS HIS PLAYING ROLE ON THE FIELD OF PLAY(not bench). WHAT IS THE ROLE OF AHMED MUSA IN THAT TEAM: COACH OR PLAYER ????????***
IT’S A PITY & VERY BAD THAT AHMED MUSA, AS AN EXPENSIVE PLAYER, A LEADER & A CAPTAIN OF A TEAM IS WARMING BENCH IN THE TEAM. IT IS A THING OF SHAME THAT AHMED MUSA CANNOT DO HIS EXPERIENCE, LEADERSHIP & CAPTAINSHIP ON THE FIELD OF PLAY.
** MESSI, RONALDO, KESHI, OLISEH DUNGA, CAFU, MANDINI DID THEIR EXPERIENCE, LEADERSHIP & CAPTAINSHIP ON THE FIELD OF PLAY (NOT ON BENCH).
ALTHOUGH IN NIGERIA WE ALWAYS TURN THINGS UPSIDE DOWN.
** What oyinbo call white we call it BLACK
** We define one of the quality LEADERSHIP as ability to acquire wealth for self and families.
** We defined DEMOCRACY as govt of the family, and for the relatives
WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR MENTALITY AS A ROLE OF EXPERIENCED PLAYER, LEADER & CAPTAIN OF A TEAM.
** AN EXPERIENCED PLAYER, LEADER & CAPTAIN OF A TEAM MUST ALWAYS BE FUNCTIONING OF THE FIELD OF PLAY (NOT ON BENCH) JUST LIKE HEAD OF SOLDIER ALWAYS FUNCTIONS ON THE BATTLE FIELD (Not sitting down/warming bench in the office).
** AHMED MUSA JUST WASTED A SLOT/CHANCE THAT SUPPOSED TO BELONG TO ANOTHER PLAYERS.
*** ENOUGH OF THIS NONSENSE IN SUPER EAGLE TEAM!!!
Giving you flowers players!
I wish that these flowers could speed up your recovery. Get well soon!
someone has not taken part in the real match and he’s getting injured…I wish you quick recovery sha…it’s well
I’M ABSOLUTELY NOT EXPECTING ANY CHANGE IN THE TEAM’S LINEUPS AND THE APPROACH TO THE GAME AGAINST ANGOLA..KEEP PRESSING THEM EVEN HARDER, TILL THEY COMMITT BLUNDER UPON BLUNDERS
Good news that Nwabali is fine
Musa is risking his reputation. Does he want the SE fans to go into a frenzy mood when he is finally pushed by a credible coach?
This old man no go retire in good faith until people insult him lol. He hasn’t logged a single minute in the Afcon and yet injured already lmaooo..
Baba Musa is getting old. You never play one minute yet you don get injury.
Baba Musa abeg comot make a healthy player get your slot!
We don’t have any ball-joggler so I expect Angola to control possession. Just like Mali, they’re a cohesive side. Nwabali is needed in this type of game to shout and control his defenceline to avoid panicking, especially when Angola controls possession.
I hope Kenneth Omeruo plays instead of Zaidu. That guy offers nothing, always panicking under no real pressure.
Onyeka will have to double his energy in DM. Because Angolans play fliud-football.
Iwobi should step-up his game and stop dancing ‘kurukere’ without any impact.
In terms of head-to-head, Nigeria has 3 wins while Angola has 2 wins. Five games ended in a draw. In view of this, no one really has an utmost bragging right.
I hope Osimhen scores! Goodluck to Super Eagles.
That’s true. However, it doesn’t really matters who scores. Osimhen will continue to organize his boys so long as the Eagles win.
I can bet that if Nigeria gets to the final then you’ll see Musa agitating to play. He is that type of person – like a Nigerian politician, who likes to do no work but is ready to steal the glory from others.
Musa will play in the Final.
Chai, who slap me? LOL
I think people should stop destroying players credibility and reputation, to single out a player for strolling on account of long stay in the national team is not progressive cos it’s not based on poor performance, I expect our erudite football scholars should have learnt fom this competition, we have seen players from third tier leaque play, we have seen home based leaque players, we have seen older players than Musa play in this tournament, and they all have good account of themselves, I believe some of us need to have a shift in our mindset going forward, PULL-HIM-DOWN SYNDROME IS NOT A VIRTUE AT ALL.
OYINBOS SABI HOW TO ENCOURAGE THEIR OWN, BUT HERE IN NAIJA, E GET AS E BE O!
QUOTA SYSTEM CAPTAIN!!!!!
SHAME ON MUSA, SHAME ON THE COACH !!!!
SHAME ON THE NFF!!!!
SHAME ON NIGERIA!!!!
If Finindi is over stayed in the SE, there would have been no Tijani Babangida and no Musa.
leave the SE now, you are robbing other players of their own time.
yeye de smell
YEYE DE SMELL!!!!!!
SHAME!!!!!
Hello,
People need to understand that Musa has his qualities and advantages for being in the team – You people need to chill out and try to reason calmly, look around the world and you’ll notice that there’s at least a “Musa” if not two in most if not every team – Football is not just gra gra, vex vex, gbosa gbosa, – All this shouting and cursing is a waste of time and energy because even if you lot shout and complain till this time next year, it is too late now and Musa is already in-situ with the team – you guys need to chill, you’ll be surprised that Musa may contribute something remarkable to the team, in terms of an experienced cool head, I don’t think there’ll be any in the current team with a cool head like Musa and if you know anything about football then you’ll know that there is NEVER a substitute for a cool head in football – there’s no need for all this emotional reaction to Musa’s inclusion, even I myself initially reacted with emotion but when I had cooled off, common sense prevailed and now I am for Musa being in the team – the fact that he has not yet featured is neither here nor there, in fact it is a good thing in that it seems to signify that the coach also knows that Musa is there for any occasion where we need a “senior” and experienced cool head which you are going to need at some point in a competition like this and if/when we do, then Musa is there for just that. Abeg make una dey cool down and and let’s all just rally together and support the team! If na cool water una need let us know and we can arrange something for you, haba lol
Ire o!
Up the Super Eagles of Nigeria!
