Ghana Football Association (GFA) have sacked coach Chris Hughton after their group-stage exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars finished on two points in Group B, drawing 2-2 with both Egypt and Mozambique following a 2-1 defeat by Cape Verde in their opener.
The four-time AFCON winners had slim hopes of advancing as one of four best-ranked third placed sides.
Unfortunately, it was not to be as they were eliminated on Tuesday when results went against them.
Following the team’s exit, the GFA announced that Hughton, who had been appointed as Ghana head coach in February last year, has been relieved of his duties.
“Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
“The executive council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.

“The GFA will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”
Hughton replaced Otto Addo as boss after Addo stepped down following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana finished bottom of Group H with one win from three matches.
Also, the Black Stars crashed out at the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon at the group stage, and have now suffered the same fate at this year’s edition.
The West Africans had also endured a mixed start to 2026 World Cup qualifiers under Hughton, beating Madagascar with a stoppage-time goal before losing 1-0 in Comoros.

I think Otto Ado was better than Chris Hughton. Wonder why Ado stepped down.
Na wa o! And to think that he was a premier league coach and him no come good…
Chris Houton wasn’t as pragmatic as he could have been in this tournament. Back to the drawing board for Ghana.
Good luck, they have the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in the summer to look forward to.
If our SE coach lose next game he will also be sack . But I am praying we win , because football has gone beyond prediction
The problem of Ghanaian football is not coach but the evil mindset of both the players and the fans towards opponents when it comes to football.
Stop being silly. So you mean we couldn’t beat mozambique because of evil mindset towards their players and fans? What kind of statement is this? Your hatred for Ghana always exposes you and makes you write nonsense. What is the sense in your post. Grow up bro!
Monkey Post your team Black jars were broken to parts , so they fell aparts, the losers black jars, bye bye black jars…
I hope you will come back and write this same stupid lines when you lose. Why do you hate Ghana so much? Fake brothers. You guys are like Judas, always pretending to love Ghanaians. To hell with you and your hatred. Who cares if Nigerians do not like Ghanaians?
Good riddance to the defensive football merchant I wonder why a footballing country as big as Ghana will persist with another defense minded coach for AFCON.
Ghanaians will never forgive their football federation similar to our own silly federation administrators who are hell bent on destroying our football.
Ghana will be back eventually.
I will give Coach Chris the sticks for poor game management particularly in closing out games with minutes to go.His players let him down badly in the three matches with school boys errors.
But beyond this, and I hope my brothers Yaw and Selfmade will not be offended, Ghana appears to be suffering from a lack of real big time talents with non visible from the conveyor belt that produced great players for Ghana in the past.Apart from Kudus, Party( who in truth is being weight down by age) unlike in the past when you have players in Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Lyon etc and it shows in the National team.Your goal keeper and stand in captain have not played a single minute for his club this past two season!
Death of quality talent is also affecting south Africa, Cameroon, Algeria, CIV, Tunisia.Nigeria is just coming out of that cycle now.
These are the issues the Ghana FA should look at in my view beyond merely sacking Houghton
Which is why their Federation must find ways to arrest their current talent drought.
And not gallivant around looking for shortcuts where there are non. Same goes for our hapless NFF.
Ghana will win the next AFCON by beating Algeria in the final, and that’s my prediction…
