South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos feels his side deserved more from their semi-final encounter against Nigeria.
The Bafana Bafana lost 4-2 on penalties to the Super Eagles in the game.
Broos’ side rallied from a goal down to take the game to penalties but couldn’t make it to the final.
“Football can be hard,” Broos said after the match.
“When you see the performance of my team today and then there is penalties and you lose the game, you’re not in the final, it’s hard to accept that, because we played a very good game today.

“I think we were the best team first half, we had the best chances. Nigeria didn’t have one chance, no, nothing. Second half, okay, they had a few chances and scored.
“But then we changed something tactically and we could come back but two minutes before the end of the 90 minutes we had again three chances. So if we could score there, it’s us going to the final and not Nigeria.
“Okay, that can happen in football. It’s a big disappointment for everyone because we feel that we played a very good game today, that we played a very good AFCON.
“I’m very, very proud of it. I’m proud of my players. The disappointment is this, but the proudness is that.
“What they performed, not only today, I think you have to be proud as a coach. Yes, it’s a defeat and you see you played a very bad game against Cape Verde and you win with penalties and today you play a very good game against Nigeria and you lose with penalties.
“That’s also football. But again, we have only to think about the way we played this AFCON. And I think everyone knows South Africa as a good playing team and that is the most important.”

U go explain tire
Mr looser rest now
We simply allowed you to play and shock you on the counter. That makes ir look like you were better. If not for that unfortunate foul by Yusuf, we should be talking of 2:0 now.
I now confirm that this South Africa coach dey smoke weed with this is comment.
Is he trying to say that his team is better than that of Nigeria?
Each team has his own tactic. And winning football has nothing to do with possession.
This coach closed his eyes when watching the match yesterday….Did he just said Nigeria didn’t have any chance??? Nothing?? Either he was asleep or is suffering from a down syndrome….because anybody with a sound mind will not utter that stupid statement.
He said first half we hadn’t any chance.
He was right
A one-track analysis of a very complex game? Shows his gross incompetence and simplistic attitude, which led to his disastrous failure. This tactless “better possession” approach cannot threaten Nigeria now or soon.
Morroco beat Portugal at the World Cup. And to spite Morocco after scoring against them, SA’s Mokoene did the Ronaldo celebration.
Yesterday, after he converted the penalty against Nigeria in regulation time, he did the Kudus celebration at West Ham (sitting on the advertisement board) cos he thought Nigeria and Ghana have an ongoing rivalry and he could spite Nigeria with it.
How low could Mokeone and South Africa go? They wanted a penalty and he was the first to lose his kick. Fate and providence shut him and his team up with an aradite gum.
That said, I don’t know if Paseiro had a definite game plan to nullify the threats of South Africa and only felt we should stick to our 3-4-3 going forward and 5-2-3 defending, but Hugo Broos definitely had a solid plan to exploit the weakness of our formation and he almost got away with it.
Before we had a chance to morph back into our defensive formation, he instructed his team to lob the ball to the defense while we only had 3 man defense, thereby giving them an advantage of 2 or 3 against 3 in front of our 18-yard box.
Unlike Cameroun that would gradually build up play, allowing Nigeria to coalesce back to our defensive formation, Broos took advantage while Aina and Bright had forayed upfront. It almost worked for him. Thankfully, it was Nwabali in goal and not Uzoho.
And Broos, South Africa, and their FA President Danny Jordan are bad losers. They never gave credit to Nigeria. They strongly felt they were the better team. No worries, we would soon meet again in the World Cup qualifiers,
They didn’t know Nigeria practiced penalty kicks as well as we studied how Williams was stopping Cape Verde’s penalty kicks. He would wait until the player got close to the ball and then know the angle to dive. Paseiro brought in all the players that had practiced for kicks (Omeruo, Moffi, etc), and we obviously are more experienced than Cape Verde. Omeruo used the paneka kick (delay and watch the goalkeeper’s movement before playing), and the rest kicked with power and accuracy.
Already Jordan is planning for revenge in the World Cup qualifiers. I can confidently say we’ll beat them home and away this time. Boniface will be back, and so will Ndidi and Awoniyi. This time the defeat will be loud right on their home turf. Nonsense and ingredients.
Congratulations in advance to Nigeria as Afcon 2023 winners and 4-time African champions.
This was a patriotic statement from the coach. Everyone in Africa is thinking highly of themselves it’s high time we keep taking everything seriously in Nigeria because countries really don’t want to hear Nigeria.
This Hugo Broos is earning a good pension moving from one African country to the other.and prasing his boys when they lose. Africans are easily deceived!
What an arrogant Coach really.
You did this & you did that then what happened in the end or were your team robbed? For me the Egyptian referee wasn’t being fair to the Nigerian team in this match really but nonetheless they still won the match & that what really matters overall.
Give the Nigerian Team there flowers because they deserved there win,Yes your team played well in the first half after the opening 15 minutes of play by Super Eagle but your team didn’t create clear cut chances apart from the direct shot which the Nigerian Keeper pushed in to conner kick but the second half the Nigerian team took the game to your team instead of sitting back & they created many scoring chances that lead to a penalty goal then Ademola lookman one on one with your keeper but you are blind to it because of your arrogance not to recognise the calibre of the Nigerian team your team played against of course close to the end of the game your team could’ve close the game with the free kick but it didn’t happen but before then the Nigerian team had scored there scound goal which would’ve also killed off the game completely as well but was ruled out by a VAR check then overturn to a penalty in your teams favour because of a soft tackle from the build up to the goal, Pls minus this which other chances did your Bafana Bafana Team created? How about Teremi Moffi ‘s solo goal run inside your eighteen yard box that got your defender red carded ? Rather at some point your team was busy passing the ball among themselves hoping for a penalty shootout at full time with the anticipation that their keeper will do the job for them. Was it not your instruction for them to play that way? The Nigerian team showed cohesion in there play hence your tactics couldn’t break them down, The Super Eagle have a team spirit with class and grit with experience & they made mess of your keeper in penalty shootout hence he couldn’t save even one kick so Mr Coach give respect to the Super Eagle & stop this your silly sore loser Arrogance.Up Super Eagle for Victory & win the Cup on Sunday
You pipo should understand. Broos dey vex.
The last time he lost to Nigeria, Rohr nearly killed him. He barely survived that encounter.
Now, Nigeria don come again, eliminating him from the Afcon.
If it was you, you too would hate Nigeria for that. Nobody likes to lose every time.
Sorry Oga Broos. The world cup qualifiers will soon resume.
See you soon.
