Taiwo Awoniyi has sent a message of support to Victor Boniface following his injury which ruled him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Boniface suffered a muscle-tendon injury in the right adductor during training with the Super Eagles in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
He has since been replaced by OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi.
Following confirmation that he would not feature at AFCON 2023, Boniface wrote on his X:” U20 nations cup got injured seven days before the Nations Cup. Super Eagles got injured six days before the Nations Cup. Only God knows why.”
Reacting to the post, Awoniyi also wrote on his X handle:” My guy mafo……. We gallant for that green white green. We go again…..no one fit kill light.”
Awoniyi will also not be in the Eagles squad for this year’s AFCON, after sustaining an injury during the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in Uyo.
Aside Boniface and Awoniyi, Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is down injured and has been replaced by Alhassan Yusuf.
Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to be in the squad despite struggling with fitness.
