Algeria needed a goal in stoppage time to force a 2-2 draw with Burkina Faso in Group D of the AFCON 2023 on Saturday.
It is a result the Burkinabes will be rueing as a win would have sealed qualification into the round of 16 with a game to spare.
They will now have to record a favourable result against Angola in their final group game to progress.
For the Algerians, they will fancy their chances against Mauritania, who lost 1-0 to Burkina Faso in their opener.
Burkina Faso took the lead in the third minute of first half stoppage time through Mohamed Konate, who beat the offside trap to head home a delightful cross.

In the 51st minute Algeria equalised thanks to Baghdad Bounedjah, off a rebound inside the box.
Burkina Faso went 2-1 ahead thanks to Bertrand Traore who converted a penalty.
Algeria refused to give up and we’re rewarded in the 95th following a brilliant header from a free kick by Bounedjah for his second of the game and his third in the tournament.
