Former Nigerian defender, Christian Chukwu says the current Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by Amaju Pinnick does not trust and respect the Nigerian coaches just the way they respect foreign coaches.
Chukwu made this known in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunday Sports.
The ‘Chairman’ as he was popularly known during his playing days, stated that Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen has turn around the team in the space of few weeks that he took over from Gernot Rohr.
Chukwu joins fans and pundits who maintain that the Super Eagles need a local handler, citing the fact that all World Cup-winning teams were handled by their nationals.
“I can assure that the present Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) does not believe in Nigerian coaches.
“I am happy with what Eguavoen is doing now. Within a short period, Eguaveon was given the job, you can see how he has turned the team around. Nigerian coaches can perform even better than foreign coaches but our federation doesn’t have respect for the Nigerian coaches,” he noted.
“Based on what I have seen, I give thanks to Eguavoen. He has turned around the team. We are now playing as Nigerian Super Eagles. And if they continue this way, we are to win the cup at the end of the day.
“You can see attacking force in the team, unlike when Rohr was there. Our game has changed completely and if they continue like this, I can assure you we will get to the final and, if possible, lift the cup.”

It’s sad but that’s the truth I for one think corrupted NFF is the super eagles number one problem. Am still praying eguaveon win the cup and that new coach is been dismissed
A few years ago ICPC sealed the Ikoyi mansion of Pinnick Amaju. What does that tell you? You can Google the story if you don’t believe me.
Rohr uses his defenders as attackers so that is the reason dey wil lose at the 92th minutes all the time because dey have used their energy to run throughout the game.thereby it wil seems as if the middle men are doing nothing. But the case is different now they are playing basketball like football arriving and defending from the middle. . Cup is in Nigeria already
### WHAT MAKES NFF NOT TO BELIEVE IN LOCAL COACHES ###
***MOST OF OUR LOCAL COACHES CANNOT STOOD THEIR GROUND WHEN PROBLEMS COME OR UNDER PRESSURE.
*** MOST OF OUR LOCAL COACHES ARE HIGHLY SENTIMENTAL IN SELECTING PLAYERS. THEY USED QUOTA/TRIBAL SYSTEM IN THEIR SQUAD. SOME USED EGO SYSTEM. THEY DON’T SELECT PLAYERS ON MERIT.
*** MOST OF OUR LOCAL COACHES ARE HIGHLY BRIBE TAKERS. SUNDAY OLISEH CONFIRMED THIS TO NIGERIA IN 2016 CHAN QUALIFIERS. HE SAID HE WAS APPROACHED BY EX-COLLEAGUES THAT LET DO BUSINESS BY INTRODUCING PLAYERS TO YOU. BUT HE REJECTED IT.
ALSO IN 2018, ONE GHANAIAN JOURNALIST CONFIRMED TO THE WORLD HOW FORMER KANO-PILLAR/ENYIMBA COACH WAS CAPTURED BY CCTV CAMERA COLLECTING BRIBE FROM ONE NIGERIA HOME BASE PLAYER FOR HIM TO BE INCLUDED IN CHAN SQUAD.
IF NIGERIA LOCAL COACHES CAN AVOID ALL ABOVE MENTIONED, THEN THE WHOLE NIGERIA WILL READY TO SUPPORT THEM. BUT I DOUBT IT.
Stop typing in all Caps Lock, dude. It is not appropriate.
FOR NOW IT IS TOO EARLY FOR US TO CLAMOUR FOR AUSTIN TO BE THE COACH. FIRST NFF WILL NOT SUPPORT A LOCAL COACH OR WILL FRUSTRATE ANY LOCAL COACH BECAUSE EMPLOYING A FOREIGN COACH BRINGS IN MORE MONEY TO THEIR POCKET FRAUDULENTLY. THERE IS NO WAY NIGERIANS WILL NOT SPEAK OUTIF ANY LOCAL COACH IS TO BE PAID $50K EACH MONTH AND IT IS IN THIS BIGGER SALARY NFF SUCK THEIR MONEY FROM.
EVEN IF WE CLAMOUR FOR AUSTIN AND THEY EMPLOY HIM THEY WILL MAKE SURE HE FAILS ,AUSTIN WILL BE EXPOSED TO FAILURE AS THEY DIDTO SIASIA AND OLISEH IN THE PAST EVEN LATE STEPHEN EXPERIENCED THIS CORRUPTION..
APART FROM THIS PERSONALLY I WILL NOT SUPPORT AUSTIN BEING A COACH JUST BECAUSE THE EAGLES ARE PLAYING WELL REMEMBER THIS IS JUST AFRICA NATION CUP WHERE MORE IS EXPECTED FROM THE PLAYERS IN TERM OF SPEED AND POWER BUT AT THE WORLD CUP IT IS MORE THAN THAT IT WILL INVOLVE TECHNIC AND TACTICS. SO FAR SO GOOD AUSTIN HAS PROVEN THAT HE HAS BEEN THE HEAD OF TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT AT THE NFF FROM THE WAY HE HAS TRANSFORMED THE TEAM POSITIVELY. NO FOREIGN MANAGER CAN DO THIS NOT EVEN PEP ,IT SHOWS HE UNDERSTANDS THE PLAYERS AND NIGERIA MENTALITY, AND I MUST SAY ROHR HAD TURNED DEAF HEAR TO TECHNICAL REPORTS BY AUSTIN IN THE PAST OTHERWISE ROHR TEAM COULD HAVE PERFORMED BETTER IN THE PAST, THE MAN IS UNINTELLIGENT AND PROUD TO LISTEN TO TECHNICAL REPORT. EVEN BEFORE AUSTIN TOOK OVER THE TEAM HE HAS ALREADY TOLD US WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO .
HOWEVER I MUST CONFESS ROHR REALLY BUILT A VERY GOOD TEAM FOR US ,HIS INFLUENCE HAS REALLY PAVED WAYS FOR OUR PLAYERS ABROAD AND NOW WE HAVE MANY PLAYERS PLAYING IN BETTER LEAGUE WHICH WAS HITHERTO NOT BEFORE.
BACK TO AUSTIN BEING THE NEW I WILL SAY NO ,HE DOES MOT HAVE THE AURA TO MARKET OUR PLAYERS TO THE BEST LEAGUE AS A WHITE MAN WILL DO . YOU DO NOT JUST EMPLOY A COACH FOR THE SAKE OF COACHING YOUR TEAM IT MUST ALSO BE FOR MARKETING YOUR PLAYERS AND DEVELOPING YOUNG PLAYERS, AM NOT TOO SURE AUSTIN CAN DO THIS.
HOWVER IN HIRING A COACH WE NEED TO KNOW THE PHILOSOPHY OF THIS COACH DOES HIS PHILOSOPHY ALIGN WITH OUR NIGERIA MENTALITY, THIS IS WHERE ROHR FAILED WOEFULLY AND IT IS BECAUSE NFF ARE DUMB TO SEE THIS. A COACH LIKE ROHR SHOULD BE COACHING COUNTRIES IN THE RANKING OF 150 THAT SEE DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL AS OFFENSIVE NOT NIGERIA THAT WANT TO PLAY ATTACKING FOOTBALL . WE CAN ALL SEE THE PLAYERS ALL COMING OUT TO SPEAK THEIR MIND THAT ROHR WAS THE PROBLEM AS HE WAS ALWAYS CAGING THEM.
FINALLY HAVE READ SOME PEOPLE CONDEMNING OUR PLAYERS THAT EACH ONE SHOULD HAVE SCORED MORE THAN A GOAL LIKE CAMEROUN ABUBAKAR, YOU ARE ALL GETTING IT WRONG . NIGERIA AS A NATION DONT DEPEND ON A STRIKER WE DONT PLAY THAT KIND OF FOOTBALL EVEN IN THE DAYS OF RASHIDI THERE WERE MANY STRIKERS THAT CAN ALSO SCORE . THE PROBLEM EGYPT IS FACING NOW IS OVER RELIANCE ON SALAH IF THE MAN YOU LOOK ONTO TO SCORE IS CAGED THEN THE WHOLE TEAM IS CAGED. IF CAMEROUN PLAY US TODAY LET JUST CAGE ABU THEN CAMEROUN IS IN TROUBLE. THE STRENGTH OF THIS TEAM IS WHO DO YOU MARK.
After dem correct one person, you carry strong head do your own.
Ughhhh
So. Where is the respect in this. Capital letter can be difficult to read. Why won’t you take correction?
BY THE WAY WHY ARE PEOPLE SO QUICK TO CORRECT INSTEAD OF WANTING TO KNOW WHY AM WRITING IN CAPITAL . I SEE CLEARLY CAPITAL LETTERS AND AM MORE COMFORTABLE TYPING IN CAPITAL. SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO CORRECT ME AS I DONT COMPLAIN WHEN I SEE PEOPLE WRITING NORMALLY IF YOU FIND MY CONTRIBUTIONS DIFFICULT TO READ AM SORRY FOR THAT BUT YOU CAN IGNORE IT.
Upon bribe some of them collected from players, they are still begging for money in treatment in U K. when they got sicked.
Because only the blessings of God Almighty make rich and add no sorrows.
Time is coming when fans will protest to Plot 2033, Olusegun Obasanjo Way, Abj, to drive away all of them from their offices should NFF continues to disrespect our domestic coaches. To hel with Peseiro no CV.
I think the protest is very welcomed. Within a spate of few weeks, the interim head coach, Eguavoen took the Super Eagles from the bottom to an enviable point in football. It’s one of the greatest achievements in the world of sport but because we are Africans little is said in regards. One wonders how on earth did one of the poorly rated teams in Africa that could barely defeat Liberia national team, struggled with Cape Verde and was even defeated at home by Central Africa Republic to be re-assembled and turned to one of the top-ranked team in the most popular game on in Afcon. Eguavoen deserves whatever he asked of Nigeria and not just the NFF knowing fully well that the joy of winning brings Nigerians from all works of life together in unity. NFF make una wash una sef o.
Chairman Chukwu , you are very correct sir , only that you tried to be economical with truth by not speaking out , the main reason behind the NFF preferring average coaches in Europe to the locals ; which is purely CORRUPTION.
Amaju Fraud-Pinnick will not employ anyone that he cannot make business with , that is why the likes of clueless and average coach like Rohr of this world would continue to make awuf money here , messed up our football, hold us to ransom and make as much money as possible that will be shared between them and Amaju Fraud-Pinnick and his cohorts.
@ Talk your Own , I can’t agree less with you on our local coaches being sentimental in their call ups , that is why we fans should be a watchdogs to take them on where we notice that .
Again, sentimental call ups of players is not only limited to the local coaches, the so called white coaches are not immune either , as we also witnessed in the era of the erstwhile Rohr when he started loosing his grips and being owed 8 months of unpaid salaries.
What do you expect an unpaid coach to do on how to pay his bills ? the retired Igahalo that was total flopped in his last game against Cape Verde ; was it local coach that invited him ? , what of 6 months inactive John Noble that was a reserved goalkeeper for 6 months that got call up to SE ahead of his better goalkeeper that benched him in his Eyimba club ? ( As we are talking now , Eguafon would probably not been paid one dime after taken over as SE gaffer .
Then , talk of inferiority complex of our people, when local coaches do anything, it is bad but when the so called average coaches do similar act we accused local coaches for , we applaud them . Late Keshi won Afcon after 1994 in 2013 , under 1 year with accumulated of unpaid salaries, but Rohr won 3rd place and his salary was fraudulently doubled ( what is the motivation factor to the Local coaches then , when a local coach Keshi that won Afcon after over a decade, did not have his salary paid , let alone having 1% salary increase ?)
Late Keshi was accused of trying to market Sunday Mba whom he discovered himself against criticism , but stood his ground and at the end was vindicated with Mba unparalleled awesome performance that won us Afcon ( what had Rohr able to discover in our local league in his almost 6 years as the longest serving with SE other than an Eyimba Benched warmer John Noble ?).
Late Keshi does not have moral right to market the players he discovered, but many forum members here never criticize Rohr for marketing our undeserving players, benching our better players like Aina that he can’t have a deal with . because of his players that he is marketing to foreign clubs; he would benched or not called up our great performing players even in a friendly matches ( If Rohr we’re still to be SE , would Aina that is giving us complete marvellous performance now have a chance in SE ?).
Collectively we should all demand for respect to our local coaches, with same good conditions of services and prompt salary as they did with a white Rohr ( at least Rohr’s salary was uninterrupted for good 4 years , until he got local coaches treatment as Oliseh of this world , who never got credit alert for the entire 6months he spent with SE )
Sorry to digress from the topic………
Are you guys seeing what Sierra Leone just did to Cote D’Ivoire today? This S/L guys have proven to all of us how they pull off a 4;4 comeback against us during the Qualifier in Benin. So far they have held their own against tough oppositions in this AFCON drawing goals with Algeria and holding Cote D’Ivoire to a 2:2 draw.
With this results I hope guys can now forgive our players for the Mishap in Benin last year.
I really see our team as a favourite to win this cup if they remain steadfast and listen to their coach, most other teams except Cameroon has not really impressed so far and I will be glad if SE can seize this opportunity to stamp their authority in Cameroon to bring back home the TROPHY
Viva Super Eagles………….Viva Eguavoen …………..Viva Nigeria
People thought SL players are from farm. It surprise me how people will under rate a national team with 11 players.
Sierre Leonian power forwards have shown they can punish anyone who comes to African football to play selense and sengemenge fancy football… they just pressured CIV goalkeeper and sent him to hospital with forceful pressing moments ago… hahahaha.
This is the fiery level of soccer you all want Akpoguma to come and contest with his softness… Same Sierra Leone almost killed Akpoguma in Benin City with power and speed.
Anyone who missed the clip between CIV and Sierra Leone should go and rewatch it… What a match! I watched it and loved Sierra Leone for their power play… unheralded players who know how tell everyone shoe no get size anymore for African soccer.
Cote d’voire with their Man United, Bayern, Ajax, Tottenham and PSG players have been thought a lesson by gutsy men from Freetown… those guys take no prisoners man!!!
Exactly bro in as long as this Sierra Leona performance is not surprising because they have done it against Nigeria, Algeria and now Cote voire but they are not the only one to look out for. Look at what The Gambia did today against Mali? If Sudan can play with so much confidence and even seized the midfield for a very long time which our people did not look at the performance but result at the end of the day means that there are no minnows in football any more. Infact to me Africa football has greatly improved and this competition to me is proving to be the best in terms of quality of matches and drama witnessing now. I just hope we thread cautiously so as not to receive shocker because the hype and the over excitement is too much because we are seen the best football we have never seen before with our local coach leading the team lol
So, according to chairman Christian Chukwu, to owe a man 8-month salary and to instruct CBN not to give him forex at the official rate is the new definition of respect. LOL
Like I said Before Eguavoen is unique to other Indigenous Coaches in the Sense that he knows that Nigerian Players in top Leagues should hold priority as I said when he was appointed He will make us proud as he believes in only the Best and does not By into sentiment much like the late Shaibu Amodu. Other Nigerian Coaches on the other hand fall victim to sentiment and Bribe and that is just SAD!!!!.
