Super Eagles winger, Ahmed Musa has revealed that the team is battle ready to take on the Pharaohs of Egypt in Group D opening game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon on January 11.
Musa stated that this in an interview with the Super Eagles Media Officer after the team’s training session on Saturday at the VSTS-Annex OF Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua.
Recall that the Nigerian international netted a goal in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Cotonsports on Friday in a practice match.
“It was good as you can see. Yesterday we had training and today, we had another training. All I can say is that we are ready for the first game against Egypt. Thank God the other players we are expecting is in camp this morning and we are still expecting Collins.
“Definitely I talk to the players because we know what is important. This tournament we know if we can win it, it’s going to be a big impact to our own country and family too.
“So we are all ready and we know what we can do. If we give all our best, I know we can win this tournament.”

That is the spirit. We are capable to win the Afcon trophy in Cameroon.
This year Afcon edition in Cameroon is a special one, important and unique one for us Nigerians more than other participants.
The reason behind it is that Cameroon defeated Nigeria brutally during Issa Ayatu as the CAF president then and the most painful one at the Afcon 2000 final in Lagos.
Coach Eguavoen should have known this before he allowed his boss Amaju and his assistants to manipulates his selections. This is the best time to show the Cameroonians that we are Nigerians and winning the tournament in Cameroon will erase the pains Indomitable Lions of Cameroon team caused our Super Eagles/Nigerians in the past.
I hope Jamilu Collins is not injured? NFF should be honest with us. Well, Ebuehi can in his position. As it stands now, no Ighalo and Collins in the camp.
This is where we needed Amaju Pinnick. He should use his influence now. If both of the players can’t make it to the Afcon then Eguavoen should have a rethink before it is to late. He should call Dessers and Bassey to replace Ighalo and Jamilu Collins. It is getting late though but impossible is nothing because Amaju is one of CAF members and he should be able to explain the situation to CAF.
Well spoken captain Musa. Up Super Eagles. I am expecting our own to make Nigeria proud once again. Our own did it in 2013 and another trophy is on the way this year by God’s grace.
What Oga Rohr failed to do over his five years of his services, our own can do it in a week. Let’s go Eagles. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Suddenly, you are now in love with Musa. The same Musa you criticized and said he shouldn’t be in the team. Amaju did not manipulate the team list. Eguavoen chose the players he felt would deliver. He even considered a nassarawa united player to replace ighalo.
Has he come out to complain that the list isn’t his? So please stop spewing trash. What we want at the end of the day is him surpassing what Rohr did in the last AFCON. Eguavoen has coached the super eagles before as well as other junior Texas so he knows Nigerian football and what we desire in and out.
Nice way to boost the morale of the team.I use this comment to forget your quota system inclusion because the musa of the last world cup has scored more marital goals than on the pitch.Nor be me talk am oh,na so he dey for news.In all I wish the super Eagles the best in Cameroon. This is the time for my most respected forumites to come together in prayers for the triumph of the super Eagles.
If only Dr Drey and Omo naija can join hands together in prayers. Walahi the cup go land Naija.i personally wish those 2 guys a very happy new year.
@Shege luzzy, happy new you to you too brother.
You see gentleman, we are praying for Super Eagles to have a very successful outing in Cameroon no doubt about that.
If you look deeply into the issue here on this forum, someone of us are fighting for Nigeria while others rest are fighting for Oga Rohr.
So, don’t be surprised if you see them wishing Super Eagles poor outing because of our own.
They preferred Oga Rohr to stay rather than having our own in charge of the Super Eagles.
Super Eagles played a friendly match yesterday and I noticed one thing about our own.
Mr. No nonsense played two different teams in yesterday’s match which Oga Rohr failed to do.
Coach Eguavoen brought in another 11 players in the second half based on the news I read and that tells me that Amaju and NFF were forcing Oga Rohr on us during his team.
Yet NFF brought in another unknown foriegn coach to qualify Nigeria to another world cup by doing so, NFF are distracting attentions of our own in Cameroon.
However, the German tactician invented Bassey, did he play just a minute in Lagos against Cape Verde?
He invited Alanpasun, did he play?
He invited Dessers, how many minutes did he play?
Is that how you build a team?
Now NFF got him fired and his fans are complaining and wishing Super Eagles to fail in Cameroon because of Oga Rohr.
“If only Dr Drey and Omo naija can join hands together in prayers. Walahi the cup go land Naija”.
Ah ah ah. This is funny. Do you think Dr. Drey is happy that Oga Rohr is no longer in control of the Super Eagles?
Lolz. I don’t think Drey can pray for Super Eagles to win the Afcon trophy in Cameroon because if we win it, Nigerians will call Oga Rohr a failure.
This is why former Oga Rohr followers are praying for the downfall of our “own” forgetting that it is all about Nigeria not about Oga Rohr or our own. Hmmm. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
“What Oga Rohr failed to do over his five years of his services, our own can do it in a week”.
Omo9ja, your post quoted above has landed yaaaaaaa in the Lagos lagoon once again.
Our own is benefitting from Rohr’s handwork. He inherited Rohr’s team, and is using Rohr’s tactics.
In Rohr’s tenure, we had only 2 major tournaments. The 2018 world cup and the 2019 Afcon. Rohr qualified us to both tournaments with GAMES TO SPARE, and won the Afcon bronze AT HIS FIRST ATTEMPT. If not for Covid, Rohr would likely have led Nigeria to the Afcon tournament in 2021, and possibly to the trophy itsef.
He became less productive in his final days as the SE coach, and so we had to part ways. That does not mean he is a failure, as you imply.
Let’s call a spade a spade, please.
BEST WISHES TO OUR OWN AND THE TEAM.
@pompei. Your nailed it. Thats how some ungrateful Nigerians are. They tend to forget the finger that fed them so easily. Before Rohr came in to rescue the Nigeria’s football, we did not qualify for the Nation’s Cup on back-to-back basis. Nigeria was 78 positions in FIFA list. Rohr came in at our most critical time in our football history. He left us after 5 years in enviable FIFA position of 34 in the World rankings. The so-called “our own” is now in-charge after inheriting all the human structures left behind by the Whitman. It is morally wrong to keep beating and disparaging Rohr for what he has done for Nigeria so quickly without taking into consideration the corrupt, and the incompetence that “our own” imbibe with. However, l do not give up on Nigeria because there are people like Pompei, Dr dray and very few others that made me and people like me come here to share views critically and not waste time reading cabbage from time to time. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. The whole World will soon see what “our own” means. The judgment day is here. Watch Egypt vs Nigeria match on January 11.
And what rank did he leave us in africa for those 5 years. We never got into the first position, so please, he didn’t transform jack. Our style of play deteriorated drastically. Please u and your parrot can off your TV during AFCON. We will furnish you results when we need to. I know some of those players selected will want to sabotage this AFCOn, because there oyinbo daddy is no longer there. We are watching
Thumps up Kenneth! Lmao “Rohr is the finger that fed us”. If for anything he deserves to be stoned for making us miss out on Dennis in this afcon
When a high way olosho speaks, u go know.
“He inherited Rohr’s team, and is using Rohr’s tactics”.
Oga Rohr also inherented Sunday Oliseh team and later added more players in Super Oliseh’s team to strengthen the team. That means what goes around comes around.
Nonetheless, in coach Eguavoen’s issue, there’s no time to build a new team entirely but he played smart and added few new players to the team.
Oga Rohr failed during his time period.
He failed to build a team. He had no play maker in the Super Eagles during his time but now, we have Nwakali.
Eguavoen is now doing what Belmadi did for the national team of Algeria. He took the team from Maja and built it into his own taste.
Mr. Pompei, we had so many fantastic and experienced players at the last world cup and Afcon but what was the achievements of Oga Rohr in those tournaments if I may ask?
You will see what am talking about in Cameroon just wait. Eguavoen will bring the best out of our players. Eguavoen haven’t complained about the time and other challenges surrounding the Super Eagles yet.
Oga Rohr has been complaining since he has started working with Eagles and lately, he said a lot about MO Salah but we haven’t heard our own most especially, Mr. No nonsense to say a single negative thing yet.
When Nigeria were playing friendlies during Oga Rohr’s time, Oga Rohr hardly ring changes or subs but in yesterday match, our own changed the entire team that played in the first half. That is a class from our own.
My lovely friend Pompei, you said Oga Rohr,
“In Rohr’s tenure, we had only 2 major tournaments. The 2018 world cup and the 2019 Afcon. Rohr qualified us to both tournaments with GAMES TO SPARE, and won the Afcon bronze AT HIS FIRST ATTEMPT. If not for Covid, Rohr would likely have led Nigeria to the Afcon tournament in 2021, and possibly to the trophy itsef”.
It’s far from it kę. He made those achievements based on the qualities of the Super Eagles players we had then.
Keshi won his first attempt at the Afcon but Oga Rohr didn’t.
How many times Oga Rohr have bn to Afcon? What was his best performance in those tournaments?
He wasted our time because of Amaju the king of corruption.
Now, if Eguavoen improve and impress us in Cameroon, Nigerians will support him to continue. That is for sure.
Amaju have no control over that. He too Pinnick should be ready to leave after the Afcon in Cameroon. We don’t need a foreign coach. The unknown foriegn coach he hired won’t do anything if Eguavoen delivers the trophy in the end.
So Oga Pompei, I promise you Oga Rohr followers one thing in Cameroon, total football. Our own will wow you all in Cameroon.
Our own we entertain you Oga Rohr. Can’t wait. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
When the late coach Keshi was asked what the secret of his afcon winning team was, he said” Stamina”. Believe Eagles will win the cup if coach Eguavoun worked on their stamina. Afcon is 50% stamina and 50% the others.
@omo9ja do you even think before you talk? You said Rohr qualified for those tournaments based on the calibre of players we had. So not because of his tactics. So when we failed to qualify for 2006 world cup, we didn’t have great players? There was no Kanu, Jay Jay, oruma, enyeama, odemwingie, nsofor, Martins, yobo, taiwo, obodo etc. Can you compare these ones listed here to the players that Rohr used to qualify us? You are an ingrate. People go on attacking Rohr that he came 3rd at the AFCON as if we were the defending champions in that tournament. We were nothing on Africa football before he took charge. The master tactician, oliseh ran away. Rohr even had to do without the impressive Carl ikeme in the goal keeping department.
Anyways, let us enjoy the tournament we have before us
Did u know the difference between a competitive friendly match and a test game on a training pitch like the one eagles had with sporting Garoua? so if Nigeria should win the cup tomorrow it is no longer the caliber of players but Eguavon, can you see that sense is far from you sir? We have always been saying it that sentiment and hatred has beclouded some people sense of reasoning. Total football such as the one they played on Thursday abi.
@Omo9ja, @Kenneth……..you guys need to appreciate the goodness in others for goodness to follow you. Have you forgotten so soon that when Rohr took over SE, we were known as Super Chickens after missing out on 3 out of 4 AFCONs. The last 2 consecutive miss was even most painful because we were AFCON Champion but not good enough to qualify to defend our title in 2015, this was an all time low if you ask me.
SE has gone through a number of “Our Own” coaches namely Keshi, Siasia + Amunike, Amokachi, Oliseh………..all these guys combined together plunged us into a deep pit from the position of African Champion to position no 17th on Africa Ranking and 78th in FIFA World Ranking. We became so unattractive so much that World class coaches like Sven-Göran Eriksson rejected us, even Paul Le Guen ran for his dear life when he was given the task of Qualifying us for the 2018 WC.
Gernot Rohr was the only brave one who came to our rescue, welcomed the Challenge of qualifying us for 2018 WC with games to spare in a deadly group of recent AFCON Champions (Zambia – 2012; Cameroon – 2017; Algeria – number 1 Ranked in Africa at the time of Rohr’s appointment). We do not have a team to write home about at the time but he rallied round, combed Europe to scout for players to complement the likes of Mikel and Victor Moses and nipped them into a formidable unit. He only lost his way in the last 1 year of his reign due to the corrupt activities of Pinnick and his cronies but still maintains a respectable team that was handed over to Ogunefon on a platter for AFCON 2021.
So please give kudos to whom is deserving and appreciate General Rohr for all he has done for us.
$Dr banks thank you so much. These lots have all forgotten where Rohr picked us from. I remember when Paul le guen was announced as our coach then he later rejected the appointment because the task before him was almost impossible. Teams like Uganda, Cape Verde, Guinea were all ranked higher than us. Have we forgotten the days of using calculators to know our chances of qualifying? Have we forgotten that days of our fans singing “all we are saying, give us one goal” in every match we played? Have we forgotten how only hoped for draws away from home? We’ve forgotten how we usually waited for T.B Joshua to prophesy before we know our fate. The days we were called super chicken is long gone, but the man who help us put a stop to all these, is now called a failure despite unpaid salaries, despite matches played in venues he complained about.
Make we dey watch dey go
One clown was so eager to see Rohr leave that upon appointment of a local coach, he said “at least, let us fail with our own”
@Pompei thank you! Am trying to make some calls to South east(Nigeria), to see if the youths over there will come and investigate and then if true, give @Omo9ja 50 lashes of the Cain since a forumite here alleges he is high on Mkpuru Miri… LMFAO!!!
@Chinenye when you get to church today pray for forgiveness. How you still have the guts to accuse an innocent man GENERAL ROHR that included Dennis’s name in the 40 man list before he left still baffles me…
@monkeypost, do you think she’d have time for church today??? You no know say na high way olosho she be? She’s not yet back from work nah. Lol..
Nothing but the cup is all we need. Omo9ja just said up there that rohr won matches and qualified us for afcon back to back bcs of the caliber of players at his disposal and not his tactical prowess ( in his usual foolish way, he forgets that it was the same caliber of players that he featured when we lost matches. When a coach makes giant strides, the glory goes to the caliber of players at his disposal but when he loses, all the blame goes to the coach and same caliber of players are absolved of any blame. Hypocrisy at its peak ). Eguavon has inherited the same caliber of players that can win matches and invariably the competition without the tactical input of the coach and hence, it is expected that these same “caliber” of players with our “own” coach should be able to bring the cup to nigeria.. He eguavon reiterated what omo9ja said albeit indirectly some time ago when rohr was incharge that any good coach with the caliber of players we have should be able to get the team up and running in a matter of “weeks”. It is based in this premise that i belive the job was given to him which he gladly accepted. Bring the cup home. Nothing more, nothing less. I wish the team the very best as I sit back to watch tiki taka football, “purposeful ” football that showcases our true “identity” as expected by every football loving nigerian. I hope to seee how mr no nonsense brings to life his board game analysis of the tactical structure and formation of the super eagles.
LFMAO! @Oakfield then she should be in Cameroon where her olosho job will pay better cos those Nigerian politicians will be there not on the highway.LMAO!
But in other news some IRRELEVANT BED WETTING ANTELOPES under the guise of forumites are bent on using my legendary name “MONKEY POST” to chase clout all because am a proud ROHR ASS LICKER…. LMAO!!!!
Lol…. Yeah, u right. she must be In Cameroun by now. No time at all. Hahaha
*LMFAO*
