Head coach Johan Ackermann has extended his contract with Gloucester despite their Premiership semi-final defeat against Saracens. The 48-year-old South African has enjoyed a positive second season at Kingsholm as he followed up last term’s run to the European Challenge Cup final with a third-placed Premiership finish for the Cherry and Whites.

The former coach of the Lions Super Rugby side is now looking to bring some success to Gloucester having put pen-to-paper on an undisclosed “long-term” deal. “We’ve made progress, but the job is far from complete,” said Ackermann. “We are only a certain way along the journey and I’m confident that, if we all pull together, work hard and remain true to our beliefs, we can do great things for the club, its supporters and the city of Gloucester.”
