President of the African Boxing Union (ABU), Houichi Houicine, has praised the CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, for his immense contributions to the development of amateur boxing in Nigeria.
Houicine made this known on the sidelines of the ongoing African Boxing Union convention in Kampala, Uganda.
Houicine, who also serves as the Vice President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), said he and his team have been closely following Imadu’s efforts in developing amateur boxing in Nigeria, and they believe he should be encouraged to stay on course.

The ABU President, in his address to the Yucateco boss, said, “You are doing a great job for boxing not only in Nigeria but also on the continent. The boxing league you initiated in Nigeria will change the narrative of the sport in your country within a few years. My team and I are truly interested in what you are doing with the Yucateco Boxing League, and we are open to providing any support you may require from us going forward.”
Imadu, who was recently elected as the President of the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN), also met with the Hon. Minister of State for Sports, Uganda Ministry of Sports Development, the President of the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission, and other top dignitaries.
The BPAN boss is attending the ABU convention with his Vice President, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Waheed, founder of De Lads Boxing Promotions, along with other executive members of the recently inaugurated board.

The primary goals of the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN) in attending the convention are to network with key stakeholders in the global boxing community for the further development of the sport in Nigeria and to broaden the technical know-how of their ring officials.
The ABU convention, which commenced on Sunday, August 18th, will end on Friday, August 23rd, in Kampala.
