Deborah Abiodun has expressed delight after making the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award.
On Monday, 27 November, CAF unveiled the final five-player nominees for the young player category with Abiodun making the cut.
Also on the list is Esther Ajakaye, Comfort Yeboah of Ghana, Morocco’s Nesryne El Chad and Thubelihle Shamase of South Africa.
“I am absolutely thrilled and humbled to make the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF Young Player of the Year (Women) award!“ Abiodun wrote on her X.
“Grateful for this incredible recognition and amazing support. Thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey! #CAFAwards2023.”
Also Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Randy Waldrum and the Super Falcons made the final shortlists in other categories.

Abiodun was part of the Super Falcons squad at this year’s women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
She was given a straight red card in the opening game against Canada and missed the rest of the Falcons games.
She is making a return to the Falcons after missing the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers with Ethiopia.
