The date of the 8th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) earlier billed to take place from September 10 has been brought back by a day which will now begin September 9 2024.
The adjustment came on the heels of the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election slated to hold September 21, 2024.

In a bid to ensure hitch-free edition, the Minister for Sports Development Senator John Enoh represented by the Director Grassroots Sports Development in the Ministry, Patrick Okeke made the adjustment during the Joint Technical Committee Meeting held on Monday at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium Asaba venue of the next games.
Enoh acknowledged total lockdown and restriction of movement, citing reasons for the change of the date.
“The date was brought back by one day due to the Gubernatorial elections in Edo State on 21 September which would lead to a total lockdown and restriction of movement,” he said.
He disclosed that the Zonal eliminations would take place from August 28 to September 1 while registration which would be done online would start from August 24 to 28.
He appreciated the Delta state government for its commitment towards age-grade sports development.
The Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Festus Ohwojero while assuring the various contingents a memorable outing said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remained committed to delivering an enhanced sports fiesta that would take the National Youth Games to a higher pedestal.
