Warriors of Zimbabwe and Nigeria’s Super Eagles will clash on matchday two of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The game comes up on Sunday, 19 November, 2023 inside the Stade Huye in Rwanda with Zimbabwe being the home team.
Both teams recorded draws on matchday one and will be looking to seal a first win in the qualifiers on Sunday.
While the Super Eagles were held to a shock 1-1 home draw against Lesotho on Thursday, Zimbabwe forced Rwanda to a goalless draw on Wednesday.
For the Warriors, they will be hoping to secure a first win against the Super Eagles in 42 years.
The last and only time they defeated the Eagles was in a friendly game in 1981 which ended 2-0.
Since the friendly win, the Warriors have suffered four defeats and managed two draws in the last six meetings with the three-time AFCON champions.
Also, the Warriors have only managed to score four goals and conceded 14 against the Nigerian senior men’s national team.
Prior to Sunday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier, the last encounter between both teams was a friendly in 2019 in Asaba, Delta State which ended goalless.
Meanwhile, this is the second time the Warriors and the Eagles will be drawn in the same World Cup qualifying group.
They were paired together during the race for the 2006 tournament with the Eagles winning 3-0 in Harare and 5-1 in Abuja.

Since Okocha left,we have not had a good attacking midfielder in the super eagles. Oliseh tried Rabiu Ibrahim it did not PAN out well. We have Obinna Nwobodo, Ifeanyi Matthew, The captain of Osimhen U17 all conquering team. These guys are trusted and have shown they could do it. Iwobi in over 40 games has not solved the problem, Aribo going to Southampton ruined his creativity.
Prior to 2006, we had too many players in the English league playing for the Eagles….we did not make it to the world cup. This same history is repeating itself. There are very good players in other leagues. Samuel Kalu and the guy in Antwerp are extremely creative, we cannot allow their club coaches to ruin their careers while WE suffer creativity in the middle of the pack
Spear us these EPL paraka players. EPL almost destroyed Onuachus career.
Starting eleven
Nigeria’s starting XI: Uzoho; Aina, Ajayi, Bassey, Onyemaechi; Onyeka, Iwobi, Tella, Moses Simon; Aribo, Moffi
Well he tried to ring changes. Good that tella is starting. But I would have preferred Boniface instead of moffi and iheanacho instead of aribo. Reason is because both have not really shown they can score goals to Nigeria. Well I hope they prove us wrong.
I also hope iheanacho and Boniface can sit up and come in in the second half.
Forget about world cup guys, it has gone forever, you guys will see that dropping 4 point is too huge.
Those friendly matches says more than enough.
Las Las Nigeria will only qualify through play off.
Wow! throwing nathan in the deep end right away, that’s bold.
Lol… Brutal
