New Super Eagles invitee Nathan Tella has explained what Nigerian fans should expect from him as he looks forward to making his debut for the team in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Tella got his first call-up to the Super Eagles and could make his international debut in the qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward had his first training session with his new international teammates on Tuesday, 14 November inside the Godswill Akpabio International stadium.
In a chat on NFF TV after the team’s training session, Tella described what fans should look out for as the games against the Southern African teams edge closer.
“Someone who is direct, who makes a lot of runs, in behind, like to get into one versus one situations to dribble and also to score and assist my team.”
Speaking on his first training session he had, he described it as very good.
The 24-year-old expressed delight to be part of a talented Super Eagles squad.
“My first training session with the Super Eagles was good I’m with very talented team, very good players and it’s nice to be a part of them and they welcomed me well I’m happy and looking forward to the upcoming games.
“Just playing with the best players in the country. I always want to push myself and challenge myself to play with the best and be among the best. I got the opportunity to do it at club level now I can do it at international level so it’s a big opportunity for me.”

The country is looking forward to seeing your performances on thursday,i’m sure you won’t let us down.Playing for a team atop the bundeliga means you’re in the best physical conditions coupled with a dominant mental strength which should come handy in our future games..
He need to fight for his spot in the team first though.
@Ayphillydegreat,I think he will be subbed on at some point against Lesotho, his performance in a cameo appearance will determine whether he starts the away game or come from the bench or God forbid not used at all.
For his willing commitment to Nigeria without waiting for us to prosterate, dude earned my respect for life and i’m telling you lad,the country loves this fella and we shall keep him in our prayers,i’m sure the collective will of the people shall not fail.
Dude shall have a great debut fingers crossed!
That’s if the coach will give him a chance. Our coaches are of the habits of not giving new players chances even if they’re in form of their lives, I hope these scenarios will change.
