Benin Republic edged Rwanda 1-0 in their third game in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Abidjan on Thursday.
Douko Dodo was the hero for Benin Republic as his 37th minute strike secured his side their first win in the qualifying campaign.
Benin Republic went into the game on the back of eight games without a win (four defeats, four draws).
The win took the coach Gernot Rohr-led side from bottom to second position on four points while Rwanda, also on four points, remain in first position.
Up next for Benin Republic is a tough fixture against fourth-placed Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday, 10 June also in Abidjan.
The Eagles will be looking to record their first win in the qualifiers when they host South Africa in Uyo on Friday.

Rohr doing the Lord’s work for Nigeria in faraway Abidjan by derailing Rwanda for us….will we be able to help ourselves with 6 points out of 6….???
Only time will tell…!
A game Rwanda should have won, if not for the chances they blew away. Nigeria will surely walkover Benin republic, except he comes to pack the bus
How many chances….LMAOoo….a team finished with 1 shot on target the whole game and this one is here talking about missed chances….LMAOoo.
It is Benin that didnt miss chances abi…?!
They don start
Yes….we don start. If e pain you, carry eraser go erase the 1 goal from the result.
If Rwanda had gotten a win and moved up to 7 points and grown more in confidence, I guess you would have been happier.
Whether you and your hateful lots accept it or not…..Rohr will have a very huge say in whether Nigeria plays at the next world cup or not.
Better Benin Rep does not show the kind of grit they showed when they drew both Senegal and CIV (the last 2 African Champions) against Nigeria on Monday, otherwise just know that our 2026 WC dream will become farther than you ever imagined…..LMAOOo
Why you dey worry yourself, a game that Rwanda should have won easily with the begging chances at their disposal. That game is a walkover for the super eagles. If he likes let him park the bus, we will still defeat them. Rorh will have no say in this group.
Hahahaha….too late….Rohr already had a say by helping us stop Rwanda in their stride and climbing to 2nd place (on goal difference) in the group
Na like this household enemy dey do until they kill themselves o, so you will rather want Benin to loose for Rwanda to have 7 whooping points when we still have 2 point. I wonder how some of you think because you don’t want any good thing to be said about the next person to you. Bcos you don’t want your friend to look good more than you do, you rather set his house that he gave you an apartment to stay on fire.
Well said Jide.
Who needs village people with folks like these ones….LMAOoo
Please don’t stress yourself, you should know they will be wishing the Eagles bad luck tomorrow. But Rwanda had that game in their hands. Well better luck next time. Nigeria will surely dismantle Benin come Monday.
Why you dey stress yourself, you know they wishing Nigeria bad luck tomorrow, Our main match is tomorrow. Monday’s game is a walkover. Nigeria doesn’t need to stress themselves
Hahahaha…..have you “walked-over” tomorrow’s game first before thinking of Monday…? LMAOooo.
Hate all you want…..Nobody is wishing anybody bad luck, if you like hide from reality tomorrow…..anything beyond 6 points out of 6 in this window (which isnt even guaranteed with yet) is kissing your sorry ass goodbye from 2026 WC…..LMAOoo
Deal with that…!!!
@ Dr. Drey, my fear is that Benin May top the group after these set of games. If we play a draw against SA and fail to win the game against Benin, they will go top.
To tell you the truth, I am afraid we may not qualify for the World Cup, not because we do not have talented players, but because of the wickedness (yes, they are wicked) of our NFF.
My apologies to all Super Eagles fans reading this. I really want us to win, and I pray we do. But with these wicked thieves in charge of our football, I fear…
You don’t have to apologise. The SUper Eagles will lose tomorrow. They can not qualify with this inexperienced coach.
I have he same view. I hope they do well and qualify. But with Finidi mehn…e go hard.
Baba fear not by grace of God and our determination in our soil we are beating SA although im staying here in SA
@Wesley, give us update what’s happening there, I know the south African will be making mouth, they are never tired of receiving beating. I hope this one will not be an exception
Yes….l don’t see Nigeria qualifying from this group. Nff are absolutely corrupt. Talent alone doesn’t win games. You have to have structure and organization which goes hand in hand. But unfortunately the nff doesn’t have that. Also, the coach that doesn’t have any experience coaching the senior team, I’m afraid we are not going anywhere
No tension my people. Super Eagles as a team is not new to this situation.
I’m so happy that Finidi is part of the system because this is nothing to him.
With God, all things are possible.
I believe we are going to beat South Africa and Benin but it won’t be easy. So, no tension. Good luck to Super Eagles. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Nkpuru mmiri at work
@ omo 9ja you can said that again
Thank you very much @omo9ja our enemies are praying for our downfall today but God will put them to shame.they are looking for opportunity to tell us that rohr remains the best coach in Nigeria football history.ndi ara I will keep souporting Finidi till we get there because I know we will surely get there with Finidi. nff should be patient and souport him the way they souported Dr drey’s father.rohr destroyed our darling super eagles before pesciro came and change things for good.now Finidi has continue where pesciro stopped which know he will do better than pesciro.
Hahahahha…If your father had sense, he would have taught you the history of how Finidi’s overated 94 squad teammates turned Nigeria to a team that couldn’t qualify for Ordinary AFCON before Rohr came and saved our football from eternal damnation.
NFF doesnt support failure…..NFF doesnt support coaches who cannot qualify for tournaments…..NFF supported Dr.Drey’s father because he was delivering resuls and meeting EVERY TARGET givven to him. Your finidi will not last an extra day in office should the SE fail to pick 6 points out of 6 by the morning of Tuesday next week.
So if you want to use your family for sacrifice at okija shrine so that your Finidi can win…..better go ahead now.
Useless Bastard.
See the way small Benin republic dey give them stomach ulcer……LMAOOoo. See as tension don turn dem to prayer warriors sotey dem dey call God name for ordinary football matter as if others teams for the group no dey worship God too…..LMAOOo
If you like go and drink rat poison….Dr. Drey’s father Rohr is already having a say as regards who qualifies or who does not qualify from our WC group…..LMAOoo
You are very welcome @Stan. Well, I don’t need to mention names but I know the pretenders but when we get the job with our own then there’s no hidden place for those who said our own were not good enough to managed the Super Eagles.
I’m pretty sure of one thing, Oga Rohr have nothing to prove to Super Eagles.
Super Eagles is not in the same level with Benin and South Africa.
I am not boasting but I am sure of what I’m saying. If Finidi fails to beat Benin and South Africa with the array of stars he has in the team then he should resign after those two matches shikena.
For you Oga Rohr followers lol, the pressure is on abi?. Kai, I am here to prove to you all once again that our own are better than Oga Rohr who spent six years with Super Eagles.
No disrespect to Oga Rohr and his Benin’s team but he should forget about winning against Nigeria. He knows what is coming to hit his team next week. After that match next week, you Oga Rohr fans have to tender your apology to I omo9ja and we the patriotic Nigerians for taking our own for granted.
You people can see now that I am talking with confidence. This is Nigeria squad. From the coaching crew to the entire team, no outsiders in the Super Eagles for the first time in history if I’m not mistaken.
That means, something new is about to happen if NFF ajewomasan the debtors allows Finidi to choose his team based on current form of our players. Fingers crossed. Let’s fail or win with our own. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Gbẹnu Oṣi Sọun! You of all people come here to claim support for Finidi? Lmao!! Wonders shall never end. Now you can brag about ‘our own” ONKR.
Better make we qualify for the WorldCup. Even if we qualify Mo Ma Ma Gbe Ẹyin Ẹlenu double mouth Ṣepe Ni. Aṣiere now claiming he supports Finidi. Lmao!!
Hahahaha AYphilly…LMAOoo.
Na real elenu double…LMAOoo
The shameless double mouth dude is here singing support for Finidi after severally passing a vote of no confidence on him even as at just a few days ago.
Guy calm down, and make us enter the pitch first, Football is not about stars but teamwork and cohesion between the coach and the players. Our local coaches are very good like the foreign but the problem with Indigenous coaches is corruption and intimidation. For example, Boniface can offer to bribe Finidi or any of the NFF members, do you feel Finidi will reject it ?? or imagine where Amadu Pinnick will impose a player to start a game at the expense of Meritocracy? We face these challenges every day, and that is why as a man of God, you can not speak the truth if you are on a payroll, you can only talk when you are independent and that is what is killing Nigerians today. The whites are the best, they are dedicated to their job unlike we blacks that we are just filled with men-pleasers, high services etc,
corruption and intimidation
You have started abusing me by calling me useless bastard no Walhalla.i will not abuse you because of God. am here to have fun as a football fan.
Look at this hypocrite….”Ndi ara” is a compliment right…?!
Remove the the log in your eyes before trying to find the spec in another’s
If using the word “Ndi ara” and “Dr Drey’s father” is having fun for you, then “useless bastard” is having fun for me too
The measure you give is the measure you will receive.
But Dr Drey. What’s your stand. It’s like you want Benin to qualify ahead of Nigeria. Is it because of your live for Rohr.
Let’s wish out team well now. Though nff is terrible but this is not the first time they have been terrible now.
It’s sad to see us talking this way. So sad.
Because Benin defeated Rwanda then it means we are not going to beat them. Let’s hope for the best. We may not like all that are happening around the team but it’s still the super eagles now.
Many of you said worse things before afcon and even after our first match.
I wish the super eagles well. I ll never supoort any team against the super eagles. Never. No matter how bad it is.
Among all the teams in the group we have the best chance of doing well at the world cup. Well no be una fault anyway, na the players wry no spank the teams they played in the first two matches cause am
He’s saying that Benin did Nigeria a favor, and we should use it well.
Are you minding those people whom hatred cannot let them comprehend Simple English anymore…?!
Please what favor are they doing for Nigeria? Are you saying they not interested in going to the world cup. My brother every team for himself
Of course it’s every man for himself. The result simply favors Nigeria (and other countries) . Not a sif the went in there saying “we must win this match for Nigeria”. Btw Lesotho is chopping Zimbabwe as we speak
OnwaJunior bros sorry to burst your bubble but the result of Benin will only favour Nigeria. If Nigeria capitalise on that by winning Today’s match.. this is no Joke our reputation is at stake here as powerhouse of Africa like I warned ealier. So let us see how important it is to Finidi.. Today is Judgement day..
So who is support another team against the super eagles here…?
If I don’t have confidence in the FA, and the competence of the technical crew how does that amount to “supporting another team”
Or we are not supposed to comment about other teams in our group because of some fake patriotism…?
And if I live for Rohr how is that anyone’s headache…? Am I living your life…?!
Angola once qualified ahead of us, the worst Ghana team in half a century once qualified ahead of us, Togo once qualified ahead of Senegal…..God is a just God. If Benin is doing the right things and getting the right results, why should God ignore them and give a ticket to a corruption infested, incompetence drooling team…?
Or are you the only country in the world that knows God…?!
Let the team that “does well” the best during the qualifiers qualify for the world cup….not the one that has “the best chance to do well at the worldcup”.
If you can’t do well enough administratively, tehnically and tactically to qualify for the world cup let those who can do so.
Good luck to the SE….but in life you make your own luck. Talent alone is never enough.
Dr rohr
Dr.Drey is Nigerian of course he wants victory for Nigeria in both games. He supports Rohr because he did well for the super eagles but was unjustly sacked.
Aside his success with the team,he was humble,a white hat,i do love him too.I was heartbroken to receive the news of his sack.
Of course Benin republic v Nigeria Dr.Drey will support Nigeria’s victory i’m sure about that..Country always should come first!
GENERAL ROAR showing the SE what they are missing in a COACH….
Real men dont hide from the truth, even if it stands against their innicial toughts, that is how i was raised, at this stage every reasonable Nigerian fan should regret the sacking of rohr, if rohr was still incharge he would have won one of those two nations cup for Nigeria and he would also have qualified the eagles to that last worldcup, truth need to be said, everyone here knows that i was not rohr best of fan, though i didnt support the way he was dismissed, i was curiouse to see him finish what he started. but i miss him and his era, this man in 2019 nations cup won big games both in scores and possesion, lost to a very strong algeria team with a superb free kick from mahrez almost dragged them to extratime, all these were achieved with a younger and inexperience version of this eagles, we have to respect him and accept these fact, i regret his sack, it affects us spiritualy and physicaly becos he achieved his goals that was set for him, normaly he should have been allowed to live on his own just as pesero did, he was treated unfaily thats why God tought us a lesson by not going past round of 16 in 2021 and couldnt qualify for wcup 2022, what we did was against our banner(peace and justice) if u see how iwobi was sent out of the tunisia game and how a dead ghana rose against Nigeria you can spot karmer in all these scenero, it wasnt that difficult for jonah and his fellow sailors to realise that he was the reason for the stumbling of the boat, they have to quickly throw him into the sea to keep the boat calm, they dont need to be arguing or be unnecesary deffensive about it, but here we are still painting our mistakes with chalcoal, and making it black and worse, if we manage to qualify by chance i advice the Nff to bring back gernot rohr, that man has got natural love for the eagles and i belive he is still very hurt over our ungratefull treatment. his man management was intact, he would have been able to get us zirkzee by now and many others, he telorated all nff failures, in finance and in preparations.
If we can bring him back it will be good for us and him, talking About benin republik he is doing them well, they almost bit ivorycoast in abijan frendlies and here he has stop our group leader for us to catch, for those of us that recall how much we hoped for angola to drop a point in 2005 for us to qualify for 2006 wcup, yet they didnt and we stayed home with all our stars, we know the value of what rohr just did for us, if okocha had rohr to help us stop angola that year, i think he would have retired after having a wonderful 2006 wcup, like play like play angola nor green drop point for us to move, only kids of Yesterday will just overlook what rohr achieved Yesterday.
Chai….you just opened up the old wounds of 2006.
That was how we were boastful that Angola will still drop points, believing that we have enough stars to dislodge them. Like play like serious…Na so Angola take go world cup….LMAOoo.
The longer Rwanda stays on top of the table, the more confidence they will get and the more resources their president (an avid lover of sports and desirous on putting Rwanda on the global map) will commit to ensuring that impossible mission is accomplished.
People who cannot see beyond their nostrils because of their hatred and arrogance cannot realize how much of a blessing derailing Rwanda early enough is.
They should go back in time, if they have common sense and find out how countries like Angola and Togo qualified for a world cup in their lifetime.
Nigeria fans with their pragmatic nature, I’m waiting to see how long you’re going to stand by him. Hahahaha they support every newly hired coach and they will be the first to shout cut his head out it on the street for everyone to see, he has betrayed us. I think you’re right with all this kind of support, with all this kind of declaration of love. With I will die with him kind of support and he will now go and loose, they should definitely cut his neck so that you can feel better.
Meanwhile, it would have been more reasonable to be logical with the fact that finidi do not have a wealth of experience,he has not been in charge of any team at this level before then we would have used that to evaluate his ability. I think at this point in time the reasonable thing will be to hope he do well. Not to come here and be confessing one fake undying love.
At the end they will start crying fowl even when you think they will still give him their support lol funny people.
They said Rohr has not won any match with Benin Republic.
Well, he has done just that!
The “PE TEACHER” continues to confound his critics.
Underrate Rohr at your peril. He is a wily opponent.
I’m glad we will be meeting them on neutral ground in Abidjan. Having to beat them at home would have been much harder!
Hmmmm, one win in our many games. Monday is around the corner and we sha see what his team is truly made of.
Too many childish talk Lesotho defeated Zimbabwe away does it mean we should start comparing. It’s high time we focus on ourselves and stop unnecessary comparison. Win our games and go to World Cup nobody should be interested in what other coaches are doing.
Abeg se you need microphone baba mi. Because i don’t understand all this noise about Benin doing Nigeria a favor. What favor did Togo do for likes of Senegal, Zambia and Mali when they qualified for the 2006 world cup. Just finished watching Lesotho destroy Zimbabwe. When our focus should be winning our own games to qualify.
