Super Eagles Head Coach, George Finidi, says inviting only three home-based players to the senior national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic is good, at least for now, Completesports.com reports.
The former Ajax of Amsterdam winger spoke at a pre match Press Vonference Thursday night in Uyo, ahead the Super Eagles 2026 World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana.
“I think for now, having three NPFL players in the Super Eagles is okay,” starts the 1994 AFCON winner.

“Don’t quote me wrong. This will improve for as long as we keep monitoring the domestic league.
“We’ll continue to get them involved without disrupting the structure.
“We will always want to have our very best for the Super Eagles irrespective of where they come from as long as they are Nigerians,” ‘Finito’ explained.
Finidi gave his squad a clean bill of health, saying he has no injury worries in the team going into Friday night’s clash against South
Africa’s Bafana Bafana.

Why u no invite like 10 and rest the regular foreign based. Make una continue to deceive una selves. The arrangement is to market the players by all means for corruption sake.
Hahahaha…..that advice is actually in order. Afterall, there are many talents in the NPFL.
Lol…..One of the major reasons why rohr was sacked was that there was no local content. A lot of people said that there were so many local talented players at the former’s disposal and that he should invite all of them. They said it’s bcs hes not a local coach that he has not given our domestic players enough Chance in the national team. Rohr was eventually sacked and fast forward to our local coach, he has just invited just 3 home based players. What does this tell us? It tells us that our domestic league and players do not have that quality that some claimed they had. Rohr simply told us the truth a few years ago and a few block heads (Including some of our so called ex internationals especially the ex cricket international) wanted him hanged for speaking the truth. The truth is always bitter.
You should just made your first 11 home based players to satisfy your paymasters. Because I don’t understand these sentiments towards NPFL players who aren’t even doing well continentally. Does playing in better leagues abroad make you less Nigerian?
