Taiwo Awoniyi will miss Super Eagles 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe due to injury, completesports.com can exclusively report.
Awoniyi picked up the injury in the game against Lesotho in Uyo on Thursday.
The Nottingham Forest striker was spotted at the Uyo local airport on Friday, 17 November, limping a bit as he was about to catch a flight to Lagos where he will head to England.

In an exclusive chat with completesports.com a close source who was traveling with Awoniyi, confirmed that it was a groin injury.
Awoniyi was in action for the Eagles against Lesotho before going off for Terem Moffi in the 59th minute.
He paired Victor Boniface in the starting 11 before being replaced.

It’s safe to say Awoniyi should focus on club career. He is injury prone and appears not to have what it takes for Nigeria… as a striker he has no killer instinct and appears always unprepared each rime he is on Super Eagles duty. He is one of those who had no impact yesterday.

Blame the coach for even inviting Awo who is just returning from injury. Awo is a one way path player, a player that can not take two players to score, can not control the ball intelligently will find it difficult to excel in Nigeria team. Awo can score goals in England because the structure of premiership is made for players with power and once there are good passes coming frequently Awo has little work to just tap in the balls. This can not work in National team where you have to be rugged , skillful , good control of the ball and also a good dribbler.
No much different between Awo and Osi just that Osi has zeal and tenacity when’re he is playing either for club or country. Osi will not even allow the opposition defenders to rest , he also defend from the opponent’s goal area. Awo on his part is alway dormant he can not force defenders to make mistake which can lead to goals.
Against Zimbabwe we should relax and soak the pressure then launch attack. The problem with this team is they can’t contain opposition’s pressure for more than 15 minutes before conceding goals and this is were the coach needs to fill the midfield with 5 players to mop up advances. I will suggest we give Akor an opportunity he looks rugged and he is a fighter . Or bans might be another Denise ,reports coming from his team players say he is too selfish , always thinking about himself and ready to fight anybody that goes against him. We don’t want that kind of player in Eagles now. Lastly I notice our players are selfish i will single out Ademola Lookman for this and to me this has been his character whenever he is playing for us , against Saudi Arabia there were instatnces he should have passed to a player in good position but he decided to go for goal. This guy should just return to england. He doesn’t have what takes to be a national team player. He has not really shown that spark of a striker since he came on board. Always jumping around aimlessly like a grasshopper just like sadiq that had a sitter in our match again tunisia at the last afcon and missed it. Dessers seems to be even better than him. Just a waste of precious space.

It’s okay to vent your anger on Awo but it’s absolutely out of order to single him out just because of your hatred for who is or because you are just being dishonest.
If you are blaming Awo but saw nothing wrong with Osi fo the lost or drawn matches he started for Eagles against minnows or the many open scoring chances he’s missed for Nigeria
If you coursed out Awo but saw nothing wrong with the fact the most inform striker in SE is yet to score a single goal and couldn’t score in the matches he gas started for SE.
