Maduka Okoye has backed the Super Eagles to defeat Benin Republic on matchday 1 of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in Uyo.
The Eagles would hope to avenge the defeat suffered against Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Abidjan.
Okoye, who is making a return to the team, said the importance of the game will be key in getting the win.
“Very important games upcoming for sure they play a mental role but we are getting prepared for this now and for sure we will get the win because this are very important qualifiers and we have to be on our best and perform on our highest level,” Okoye said on NFF TV.
The Udinese first choice expressed happiness over the return of William Troost-Ekong, believing his presence will make a lot of difference.
“For sure there are important players and we need them also in the team like Troost-Ekong, it’s good to have him back and for sure there will be a difference.“
On his thoughts on the Eagles finishing second at the 2023 AFCON:“Very important not just for us players but for the country and we saw what they did for Nigerians, they made them happy, bringing home a silver medal I think is good because it was not expected.
“I was supporting from home and I was over the moon and was happy for the guys and happy for the country and this is what we want to do again.”
