Super Eagles defender, William Troost- Ekong, believes that with the attacking talents in the team they can beat any opponent.
Troost-Ekong stated this on the backdrop of Nigeria’s impressive 3-0 win over Benin in Saturday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
A brace by Ademola Lookman and a goal from Victor Osimhen were enough to earn the Super Eagles a convincing 3-0 win and the maximum points.

Speaking during post-match press conference, Troost-Ekong stated that the team has so much faith in interim Head Voach, Augustine Eguavoen.
“We respected Benin the last time we played against them. Like I said, it was only yesterday we believed in ourselves and great belief in our coach. He’s like a family member who has come back to us now, and we knew we had to take responsibility now,” Troost-Ekong said.
He added: “I think with the attacking talent that we have, we don’t have to name them. I think everybody knows how dangerous we are. We try our best to shut the door at the back, and when we create chances, we tend to score. I have great belief that we gave the boys balls to score and they got them straight into the net.
“This is a good indication of the direction we are heading and the first step of many that we have to take to get to the AFCON [2025].”

Nigerians will make a lot of noise but when it gets to WCQ men will turn into boys. Yes we won but was it unexpected? I have said it here before that African Qualifiers is not the hunger but let us do the same at World Cup qualifiers. Congratulations to the fans who have suffered the most of heart breaks.
Bros go hug transformer . As he day pain u, he dey sweet us. Football, is football is whether worldcup or Nations. Along said it was only last night that they believe in themselves which is normal for a team returning to winning ways. When last did SE win a game by 3goals margin? Pls don’t come here and make hogwash comments to dampen the morale and confidence of the team going forward
@Samuels. I am highly disappointed by your post. Did you really read what our captain said? What more or less could he have said to satisfy your yearnings which turned a totally ‘unacceptable situation’ into a winning like this. A confidence building winnings going forward.
Are you not happy we thrashed our former Oga in this fashion yesterday?
What is it that our Captain said that irritated you?
Nigeria is good but, some individuals that are unaccultured and uncivilized that make Nigeria a-no-go country for millions of Nigerians
