The 2024 Nigeria Rugby League Season is set to commence in June as both
conferences have been lined up for the new season.
General Manager, Nigeria Rugby League, Isah Lawal-Saulawa, is confident that both regions will bring in their competitiveness and experience in the new season.
“The 2024 season will feature robust competitions in both the Northern and Southern conferences. The Southern Conference is set to kick off on June 24, with over five teams participating. Each of these teams willfield squads in the men’s, women’s, and Under-19 categories,
underscoring our commitment to inclusive growth and development across all levels of the sport,” Lawal-Saulawa stated.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that both regions provide thrilling and
competitive rugby experiences.
“Furthermore, the simultaneous participation of men, women, and Under-19 teams is a monumental boost for developing rugby league throughout Nigeria.
“This integrated approach will pave the way for establishing university
and school leagues, which are integral to our plans for grassroots development.”
Lawal-Saulawa also mentioned that the 2024 season promises to be exceptionally exciting for Nigeria Rugby League players, sponsors, and fans.
He added: “It will also be crucial in selecting homegrown talent for the NRLA’s international fixtures in 2024.
“We look forward to showcasing our players’ incredible skill and dedication on both the national and international stages. Thank you for your continued support, and we eagerly anticipate an exhilarating season ahead.”
Speaking ahead of the season, Nigeria women’s national Rugby team Head Coach, Samson Okeowo, emphasised that consistency
makes players’ performance be seen.

“Consistency in everything you do brings out the best of your performance, integrity, respect, and passion. Nigeria Rugby League has been consistently successful in their league since 2018, which positively reflects on the players to be the best in Africa and Abroad. This is another powerful Nigerian Rugby League Association since 2024 with both the Northern and Southern Conference League season which results in constant commitment,” the Green Falcons coach said.
Also speaking, Captain Abuja Rugby Football Club, Michael Egirani appreciated the association for making them take part in this season.
