Former Nigeria international Sunday Oliseh has expressed his disappointment following the Super Falcons exit in the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup.
The Falcons lost 4-2 to England on penalty shootout after 120 minutes of football ended goalless.
Lauren James was sent off with three minutes left to play but the Three Lionesses held on to take the game to spot kicks.
While substitute Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie missed for the Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe scored.
Despite missing the first kick in the shootout, England converted their next four attempts.

Reacting to the defeat, 1994 AFCON and 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold winner, Oliseh, praised the players for their impressive display.
“I am totally heartbroken but at the same time so proud of our “Extra Super” Falcons today. In spite of all the hardship & at times inhuman mistreatment, they have put Nigeria back up in world Football. God bless them all!!“
Nigeria’s best performance remains the 1999 a World Cup where the Falcons got to the quarter-finals in USA.
At the 2019 edition in France the team reached the round of 16 before losing 3-0 to Germany.

Not you alone. I’m not myself since morning.
But the girls try.
how many teams were at the 1991 edition when Nigeria qualified for the quarter finals, i believe this is the best performance ever by the Falcons
@Mr.Nice you got it wrong, it was 1999 when we got to the quarter final and that was the best performance ever. We have not been able to equal that performance which was achieved by a local coach. This was our chance to match and surpass that achievement but our part-time coach blew it. We were knocked out in the last edition in the same round, are we not going to progress. We never played to win any of the games, we played not to loose, but we lost anyway. They were not expected to progress, so they over achieved, but we need a full- time coach.
There was no R16 in 1999. The R16 we played vs England is equivalent to the Qfinals we played in 1999 and we didnt see that match to penalties like yesterday’s.
I quite agree with Mr Nice. This tournament should rank as our best ever considering the caliber of teams we met and still didnt lose, with 3 clean sheets in 4 games.
The same problem that super eagles have is what is troubling super falcon. I want people in this forum to tell me why Nigeria tams these days lack intelligent play and movement at the final stage that can lead to goals. I watched Bayana and Morocco team in this women world cup they don’t have half the strength and skill of Nigeria team but they have got movement and play that has made it easy for them to create scoring chances. We struggle to create scoring chances . If this area can be corrected I don’t see any team defeating us. Our running and movement are so unintelligent that it’s easy for our opponents to predict what we do next. It’s only at senior level that this has been our Achilles bane. U17 and u20 women is not so
You raised a vital point, the coach was supposed to spend time on SCORING. WE OVER RESPECTED ALL THE TEAMS DURING THIS WORLD CUP. OUR PLAYERS PLAY IN BETTER LEAGUES THAN SOME OF OUR OPPONENTS
To be fair, we were unlucky, England is current European champion and we are not even the current African champion, still, we dealth with them messesly in the field of play, our girls out played the hell out of England Yesterday, you know sometimes football can be determined by luck, the moment we hit the bar twice and the fact that the referee and the political var men denied us our clear obviouse penalty, i knew the ball may roll to the english favor going to penalties. if it was a better refery we could have won the match, from the beginning the ref appears to be intemedated by the english team, it was the galant posture of our girls both in play and personality that reset her brain to deny that silly penalty awarded to england, she wanted to treath us as underdogs we forced her to treath us as she will treath france. a girl that flew without a push, meanwhile she the ref didnt even seek to check our own penalty and there was no var call, simply because at that point they knew revewing that play will win us an undisputed clear penalty. The var men took advantage of the referee neglegence. alozie should calm down with her oversabi artitude going forward, despite i like the girls confidents, but i have always seen her flop coming to hurt us, i dont know if waldrum is just favoring her bcos of USA things. white and black shoe is not a nigerian team thing, she looks inresponsible(football wise oh) on it, are artitude shows that she priotises attention which can be translated to notice me artitude, she is so despirate for attention and seems to lack respect. what the hell was she doing in the left side of the pitch, she must have asked for it, when we still have a more tecknical gift monday in the bench, how on earth will a right footer opt to play penalty with her left legedis foot, in a world cup nock out stage, that is the dummest act i have ever seen of a player, it really shows how selfish and unseriouse minded she is, which she has also be displaying during recent games, plumtre is not as energetic and talented as allozie but she is more reserved and take less risk considering for the team, and that is self respect, i know that alozie knew she was not a good penalty taker that was why she wasnt even sure of her best foot for it, she just want to be noticed by all means, verry naughty girl, she went on changing jersey with oppornents, she felt no rumorse for that stupid penalty she played to her forfathers in heaven. However this team was really affected by lack of the number 9, no striker was able to show up for this team, onumonu etc failed the team, we relied more on the midfield and wings which was just too good, but strikers nor show up for the team, this was thesame problem with bosso under 20 team, that team from keeper diffense midfield and wings were all classic, apart from number 9, imagine if bosso team had gift orban i swear the man for collect that cup, considering gift freekicks capabilities. i am tired of teasing oshoala becos its not her fault she is tired already, every body system are not thesame, its time for oshoala to go retire we will forever love you my dear, oshoala oparanozie ordega ebi, should retire they have done well and we appreciate them, we will now preper for young strikers to complement this team. Thank God we dont have the number 9 issue anymore with the supereagles considering the emergance of burnaboy and gift orban, i will advice pesero to replicate waldrum trust for demehin and abiodun imuran coming from the under 20, pesero should invite the likes of flying eagles keeper ayanbueze, def, ogwuche and Friedrich, mild, daga and tochukwu Nnamdi these guys will do better than akpoguma, aribo, etc, he shouldnt wait for madrid or chelsea to confirm them first, 2005 nigeria had under 20 progress between 2006 to 2007 that is just a year different we already have mikel, sani keita, onyekachi apam, adeleye, ogbuke already playing for the eagles, musa and omeruo after 2011 u20 wcup they played and won 2013 afcon for eagles two years later please pesero should do thesame.
If possible nff should appoint bosso as pesero assistant so that they can integrate both teams, for example against saotome i will try a line up like this
Ayangbueze
Ebuehi ogwuche basey bruno
Daga
Tochukwu alex iwobi
Chukueze osihmen orban
Second half
I will bring, alahasan yusuf, nwakali for tochukwu and iwobi, later onyeka for daga,
Burniface for osihmen and oliseh ndah and Friedrich will replace bassey and ogwuche if necesary in backline. Let us open the door for competition in the eagles team ahead of coming afcon.
