Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has showered encomium on his players despite their failure to make it to the quarter-finals at the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The former African champions were eliminated by the European champions England in the last-16.
The Three Lionesses won the encounter 4-2 on penalties after regulation and extra time failed to produce a goal.

The Super Falcons were the better side in the game and carved out enough chances to come out with a win.
The West Africans also hit the cross bar twice and came close twice in extra time.
“I’m so proud of them, to come in and play like we did tonight. We had every opportunity to get it done. Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite get it done,” the American was quoted by FIFA.com.
“We had the best chances, we hit the crossbar twice. When it gets to penalties, it’s anyone’s game.”

Even if they SACK you tomorrow, I just want to THANK you for EXPOSING the NFF. You REMINDED me of GENERAL ROAR
Coach, you knew that penalties are anyone’s game yet you played as if you were pushing for penalties. There was no deliberate intention to win the game while it lasted despite the fact that we had numerical advantage. Is it that the barber does not know how to barb or the clipper blades are blunt?
@Chudynak I’m trying to understand you and your comment but find it difficult. It’s either you know nothing about fooball or you’re generally ignorant. If you’ve been following this team since the caoch took over, you’ll notice there’s a steady progress and this last performance angainst England crowned it all. The best team did’nt win today. The only thing this team needs is how to creat chances and how to score. So please give creadit to whom credit is due.
Well if the blades are blunt, the barber will do his best to give the customer a decent haircut. But if the barber forces the issue and ends up cutting of the customer’s head nko?
Yes, we want to win the game. But we don’t want to lose it either.
Sometimes, what seems like a logical solution might end up creating more problems and expose the team to more danger. As the decision maker, Waldrum did what he thought would maximize our chances of winning.
If Waldrum deployed more resources to the attack, and England exploit the space left behind and grab a goal, we would still be in the same boat. A second round world cup exit.
Yes, our attack let us down today. And yes, Waldrum made some mistakes. But as the saying goes, hindsight is 20-20. If we could see the future, 100% of decision making would be accurate. We say he should not have done this or that now because we lost. But we were so close to winning the game. England themselves know that they dodged a bullet today.
Well , the coach waldrum came, saw and did his best . U can only give wat u have .. and he gave a defensive plan hence the results.. another coach would have played the attack method and get bundled out in the group stage. Wat is next going forward.. will the team be structure to go a step higher to come out of their shell .to play to win with ease or to continuous wait at the box waiting for opponent..moving forward..
Paseiro could be the beneficiary of wat we saw in Australia if his team can play the structure on which falcon is built.. reason is because of the attacking guys if he can build a defensive system of play . I remember the white witch doctor troussier.. he won all his game home and away to qualify Nigeria for 1998 world cup .he was sacked because of his style of play . But he can back to Nigeria to win Japan a sliver in Nigeria 99 and got Japan to quarter final in 2002 wcup .. so going forward will super eagles go to Cotonou to draw or to get a win or to South Africa to loss or draw because of the attitude of the players… question to answer by nff . Time wil tell.
The coach didn’t make any mistake don’t let us think we can do better if we are in his shoe. It wasn’t just meant to be Nigeria had the best chances and were unlucky if that plumbtre shot or KANU header that hit the cross bar had gone in or Alozie and Asishat converted their chances during the extra time the result wouldn’t have been like this. For those blaming him for his choice during the penalties I want to belief those who kick are the best according to their training or its depends on players who decided to kick remember some players do run away when it comes to taking penalties. The coach is absolutely right that penalty is anybody game even the best coaches like Guardiola,Klop, Mourinho etc have lost on penalties at one time or the other.
