Head coach Isah Ladan Bosso has invited 39 players to the camp of Nigeria’s U20 boys ahead of final preparations for this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals taking place in Argentina.
Penultimate week, world football-governing body FIFA withdrew the hosting rights from Indonesia and handed the same over to Argentina, with assurances that the period scheduled for the championship, 20 May – 11 June, would remain unchanged.
The Flying Eagles, who finished third at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt last month, are one of four teams that will fly Africa’s flag at the finals, with the others being Senegal, The Gambia and Tunisia.
All the invited players have been told to report at the Chida Hotel, Abuja on Sunday, 16th April. Training sessions will commence on Monday.

CAF rules in favour of u 23 . guinea bundles out of Olympic qualification.
Details later….
if that is the news, no time to arrange players for under 23 to blend just use the under 21 and include them with exceptional under-23 players
Where did you get this news? It’s not found in any sports website by my check.
Abokies list
The list is a pure abokies.
Do you expect any good thing from this ladan bokko?
Shameful coach.
Is this list according to competence or national character?
Look at this list, can bosso tell us the criteria he used in selecting this sambisa fc. Nobody hates them. But an average Aboki lacks the talents, the knowledge to exile in sports or education. By pushing them ahead of others will not help them, as quota system helped them.
pls my brothers, I disagree vehemently that northerners cant play football.this is tribal bigotry, the list encompasses several tribes in Nigeria so while must northerners be excluded? lets leave coach Bosso to do his job abeg.
We don’t care about tribe or region…..we only want real talents that can be playing at the very top of European football in 5 years time…..Players like Samuel chukwueze, Victor Osimhen,Terem Moffi,Lookman Ademola, Isaac success,Zaidu sanusi, Victor Boniface,Gift Orban,Bassey and many more are our joy when we watch European football competition….We want many more like these players up there coming from the youth teams……If Northerners are dominating the youth teams and we see only a very tiny few of them making it to the very top of European football then something is fundamentally wrong with the system at our grassroot level.
@AKp,same here tribe/region/religion doesn’t matter. But you mentioined something of note in your last paragraph, the northerners have dominated the numbers in Nigerian youth football circles for a decade now but have that tendency of fizzling out when it matters.
Zaidu Sanusi didn’t go through the grades from the youth national teams so apparently none of this numerous figures aside Ahmed Musa who incidently is the senior national teams captain rose from the youth team to top professional level in Europe in the past decade, shocking and worrying.
There were some very interesting talents the likes of Musa Mohammed,Abdullahi Alfa,Musa Yahaya from the 2013 set.
Then with the emergence of Emmanuel Amunike as coach of the under 17s we had just a couple of northerners the likes of Nazifi a striker who also fizzled out sadly.
The return of Manu Garba opened the door for influx of northerners to the under 17 class of 2017 had a world cup tournament to forget by same coach in 2019,none of the numerous northerners in the squad moved up the grade what a shame that’s.
And this trend is capable of stagnating our football growth as a country because we have always used the youth teams to produce stars for the national teams right from the beginning……ugbadi,Oruma,Kanu,Aghahowa,Babayaro,Ighalo,Iheanacho, Awoniyi, success, Osimhen, Chukwueze and many more where only able to burst into world football through our youth system……We use the youth teams to sell our best talents to the world to discover them thereby upgrading our national team but now the trend is shifting dangerously……A trader who goes to the market to display the rotten fruits in his fruit store is only inviting poverty to his house…….The main assembly line that gives us 80 percent of the talents our national team can rely on has been compromised and it’s very sad.
Great point @AKp.
I want to believe there are football academies too in Edo state,Delta state,Cross river,Akwa Ibom,Bayelsa and Rivers state so why are talents not sourced from this part of the country?Or are the academies lacking the essential standards required for recruitment at national levels? Why are they continually ignored? Many questions begging for answers!
The likes of 36 lions and many more from the north have over 70% of academies which have been the production line of talents for sometime now with minimal success from the primary objectives which youth football is formed.
I’m not saying Bosso is into any mischief or funny business but this situation needs looking into to make sure we get the full compliments of talents as they’re abound in every region not missing out on any.
The way he likes it is the way it is. The background of the Coach may influence his selection. Now that he has seen the high and low of the team he should know what merit will do better than a quota system – a sentimental clap trap.
Sorry guys, I am not to conversant with the Nigerian league, please, does Yum Yum FC play in the NFL or Are they in any division?
Aboki Aboki Aboki. Lol una don see am. Nigeria is finished country. This is what they want this is why Finished Musa is still captain of a whole SE. These Hausa and fulani people only God will judge them what a shameful list
What do you mean bro,I have checked the list, the list is balanced from several tribes , so what is the problem here , why must he exclude northerners to satisfy you? why ?????
We don’t need a tribal balanced team….we need pure talent simple…..even if they all come from the south we don’t mind……even if they all come from one family we don’t mind….. enough of this balancing nonesence that has dragged us backwards for decades now…..na wa o
The sport administration of Nigeria is still from the North, the coach is from purely fanatic North stuff. So what do you expect from such a person? Winning is not on their agenda. Go to the South-South and South East you will raw talents, not all these push-and-start footballers. Many things are wrong. Who will save this country?
The hub of our soccer talents in Nigeria have always been the Southern part of the country <South South, West & East, i can hardly see any name from South South in this list, it is okay to invite players from every part of the country when building a National team but to populate the list with mostly Northerners just because the coach is from the North is unacceptable. Don't get me wrong, there are some very good talents from the North but most talents are from the south and we as a country should always select our players based on talents and area of strength. This is why it is very very important that we take our football to schools where all our talents will be exposed during school competitions from primary to university level so it will be difficult for coaches to invite players based on tribal or other reasons
Wondering what has gone wrong with talents in the South South of the country. We used to have quality midfielders/wingers from that part of the country the likes of late Thompson Oliha, late Osaro Obobaifo,Monday Agbontaen,Edema Fuludu, late John Ene Okon,Friday Ekpo,Etim Esin,Samson Siasia,Joseph Okoh,Humphrey Edebor,Roland Ewere, late Emmanuel Ebiede,Finidi George the list goes on….
Since the 20th century, there has been shortfall a worrying dearth of talent from that part of the country or is it a case of marginalisation? We have had a coach from that region apparently the 2019 under 20 World Cup had a coach from the South South region yet we scarcely had any talent from that group I would say one “Igho Ogbu”which is hardly any.
Like someone rightly suggested on here,we may profit from going back to school sports, the principal cup and other related football competitions to unearth budding up-and-coming talents which will be a springboard for talent integration to different national youth teams.
Totally agree besides pitso and caf president Patrice have started adopting the school initiative so yeah it’s high time we went back to the schools and build from there. This article of yours reminded me of my time at secondary school where I parttook in a school football tournament that was way back in 2011,i look around and non of these tournaments are on place for a good number of years now.
There is talents in the south what do you mean or is Samuel Chukwueze an Aboki?.. abeg jare. na quota system dey run things for dis our yeye Nigeria. abi, you won talk say you no know?
Chukwueze is from the South East i was on about dearth of talent in the South South,a side known to unearth highly skilful footballers back in the day.
Yeah i quite understand what goes on in the country,i wouldn’t say i’m oblivious or unobservant of what goes on in Nigeria, but the fact remains there are no evidence to prove the coach was selective in his choices,in fact it’s hard to prove difficult as it may seems.
Apparently, the best talents this time could be from the north but this could change in a few months or year but the point is selecting the best talents available regardless where they are from,i don’t think the average football fan care about the region with the most numbers as long as the right results are coming coupled with good football that’s what matters.
Recently south south has been heavily involved in Football both home and abroad……Yobo,Igiebor,Ogunde,Ighalo, Osimhen, Victor Moses,Etebor, Success,Moffi, and many more I cannot remember are the recent homers from South south while Ehizibue,Ebuehi,Udogie,Akpoguma,Bassey,Ebosele,Olise, are popular foreign born south south players of which some are already in the team while others are still trying to make up their mind…….South south is the heart of Nigerian football both home and abroad……They will always be in the corridors of the national team no matter the political play the NFF puts up…….My only worry is that they are not well tapped into in the youth teams this days……the south south and South East houses most of the best talents in Nigeria and it’s only wise to go to war with your best weapons.
Ebosele,Udogie, success and Ehizibue all play for the same SeriaA team Udinese in Italy at the moment…..very solid players too who are always involved in all of Udinese matches this season
Hello beauties.

Love you all. Kisses
@MONKEY POST be Like say sense nor dey your head again ba?. which kin mumu forming be dis again?. nawa ooo
Darling Ugo. I am not Monkey post. He is a sweet guy though. Love both of you. Xxx
From the list of players invited it is easy to conclude that Bosso has decided to give his brethren opportunities in Europe, they see the appointment of Northerner as Nff president as opportunity as opportunity to do whatever they want. They felt neglected during the time of Picknic now is their time to do whatever they want . Fingers crossed . As highly skilful and intelligent Yorubas are , in Nigeria the home of football is S.S and S.E , outside Nigeria yorubas descendant have been more consistent both in their clubs and the Nation they played for more than any other tribe. Sara and Dele Ali play for England, Alaba, Kanji mention names and it will go on .
please can someone confirm if guniea has been disqualified by CAF for the U23 nations cup tournament
