Golden Eaglets defender, Yahaya Lawali claimed the Man of the Match award following Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Zambia in today’s 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Lawali was a constant threat from the right side as he dazzled and made serious incursion with his pace and dribbles.
He was a delight to watch and could have had a goal for himself before the close of the first half but his shot went off the goal post.
Recall that Favour Daniel scored the only goal of the match on the 77th minute when he pounced on a loose ball in the area to score for the Eaglets.
Nigeria had a golden opportunity to increase the tally towards the end if the natch after substitute Light Eke missed a penalty.
Nigeria will take on Morocco in their second Group B match on Wednesday by 5pm.Nigeria time.

That abdullahi guys is a star in the making….he has a very comfortable left foot….tall strong and skillful…..overall this boys are genuinely young and there is hope for the future.
Just wanna say a big THANK YOU TO UGBADE AND CREW for giving Nigeria this very young bunch of talents. It’s being a long long time since I have truly enjoyed a Nigerian national team play football with such swag, quickness, intelligence, smoothness etc. Though there are still areas begging for improvement but that will automatically work itself out as the tournament progresses. THIS TEAM IS A WORLD BEATER as long as they are managed well not to lose focus. Once again, I say thank you to the coaching crew while praying Ladan Bosso n Peseiro learn some few things.
The Nigerians have an edge because they are by far more skilful. I’m also happy thst this team isn’t given to aerial balls. That’s an area the morroccans would have cut us off because they are taller
Brodaman Papafem, did you see how quick the boys were arriving at lose balls n passes ? Also how close they were playing to one another, winning almost every second balls as well as progressing smoothly as a team while attacking the opponent goal area. This is the Nigeria way of playing that wins tournament. I knew we were definitely winning that match after just 10mins of watching them play. A big thumbs up to the boys and coaching crew. Even if this team don’t win the Cup , I am already satisfied. Junior world cup is for developmental purpose n not necessarily winning Cup at all cost. This team is a bunch of proper talents that will, God willing, mature into the Osimene, wazza dazzler chuzzy etc when properly managed. There is that lanky centre back, can’t remember his name, definitely one for the future.
Morocco defeated South Africa by 2-0 to create a titanic encounter with Nigeria on Wednesday
