Seven players have hit the camp ahead of Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone on June 18.
Those in camp include William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Joe Aribo, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and Kevin kpoguma.
Other invited Super Eagles players are expected to hit camp by Monday.
The Super Eagles are top of their qualification group with nine points out of four matches.
They are followed by Guinea-Bissau’s Wild Dogs, who have seven points. Leone Stars, who gave the Eagles a tough run in Abuja on Day 1 of the qualification series before succumbing 2-1, are on five points. Sao Tome and Principe, who play the Super Eagles on the final day of the series in September, are bottom with only one point

All the 7 players are foreign born SE players in camp!
These players are serious
@larry, not true.
Alexander Iwobi isn’t foreign-born.
Agreed. He was born in Nigeria but his mentality and attitude was developed abroad. I wish all the invited bench warmers and inactive players stop their yanga attitude.
About 7 of the invited players have played less than 30% of their club games thus year even when they were not injured. It’s really insane that this set of players got picked ahead of active ones like Orban,Boniface, Alhassan, Ebuehi, Tella, Onyedika, Onyedika and Onyemachi.
This invitation is a day light robbery perpetrated by Gusau, Sanusi and Eguavoen. Pesseiro is just another beggar and low life coach that will be pushed around by the corrupt Picnic friends in power.
Iwobi played all Everto’s games this season Stop posting inferiority complex bullshit if you’re not sure of your facts.
I guess you need a translator.
Exactly, he probably needs his brain examined
You want the coach to invite all these players you mentioned? Are you kidding! An important qualifier where you need cohesion because of insufficient time for preparations you think the long list of players you mentioned will gel after just 4 days of practice? When most of them are newbies who are yet to have a taste of official international football and you want to throw them on the pitch saddled with such huge responsibilities to disgrace Nigeria right! Can’t believe this damn!Yes the likes of Musa,Aribo,Duru shouldn’t be in the team but others are there on merit.
Addition needed are,Ebuehi for Duru, any of Sariki,Marcus Abraham or Olayinka for Musa, any of Obinna Nwobodo,Daga,Nnadi and Onyedika for Aribo.
The likes of Boniface and Orban are strikers unfortunately we have more experienced ones in Awoniyi,Iheanacho and Osimhen capable of doing the job, plays and have excelled in much better leagues.
Additions should be like for like.Orban or Boniface for Musa or Simon is not a like for like.Moses Simon apparently, deserves to be in the team.
We in seirra Leone likes ur players set up . We wil work on that ..
IAM NOT HAPPY WITH THE LIST.
ALL THE BENCH-WARMERS( ARIBO, NDIDI, IHEANACHO, MUSA, BASSEY) SHOULD BE IGNORED/RESTED. AND BRING IN REGULAR EUROPEAN STARTER LIKE EBUEHI, ONYEDIKA, CHUBA AKPOM, URBAN, BONIFACE,
Ndidi,Iheanacho are not bench warmers they finished the league strongly.Bassey was a regular until late in the league but always in the match day squad either comes in as a substitute or start the odd games.
Meanwhile,he plays for Ajax five times European champions league winners, eight times eredivisie champions not some shit hole side..Bassey is in the team on merit.
The early arrival of some names here does not surprise me. These are guys that have a track record of showing up when they are needed. Kudos to them.
Iwobi’s commitment is just ridiculous. The guy is ever ready when called upon.
As for Ekong, he has his weaknesses of course. Perhaps he should no longer be a starting center back. But because of his commitment and attitude, I am always willing to be patient with him.
Iwobi seems to have gotten his commitment bug from his uncle Jay Jay. He was another player who never ever joked with national assignment.
Says who, i was on a flight from Germany with jay Jay a day before a match. Can’t remember who we were playing the next day,but recollected there were some supporters club members returning from Ecuador. And there are several matches he comes in few days before the match. Iwobi is just different.
Those were just a few instances. For the most part, Jay Jay always made himself available for matches when needed. Don’t forget that they are likely still owing him match bonuses and flight ticket reimbursements. Yet, he kept showing up when needed. That is one thing I appreciate so much about him.
Seriously, Respect to Iwobi. Even back then as a kid when he was still ineligible for super Eagles, he showed up in camp for experience talk less of now that he’s a star. That’s the first thing I noticed in Iwobi and that has been one of the reasons he got my support when he was underperforming. Even during those hard times , he still performed well in Eagles color. I just wish Aribo and Bassey can get their groove back soon, Iwobi and Aribo combo against Ukraine and Brazil still rings in my head , their combo still helped us leading by 4-0 against Sierra Leon back then until Balogun left the field injured with other wrong subs that gave Leone stars their comebacks.
I really can’t wait to also see what Akpom and Iwobi can do together since it has started back in Arsenal days. I hope we win this to get many new names to play the last game in September against a very weak Sao Tome.
iwobi for captain of the super eagles of nigeria. i dont see iwobi-akpom combo happening in this team. not when we have better strikers. i just hope that the super eagles get the job done against sierra leone and that the coach or the nff will use the last match to test or try other talented players like orban, boniface, alhassan, raphael etc.
this current coach has added nothing to this team, there is no improvement in the team in any area and still he remains.
Akpom can play an offensive Midfield role. And Paseiro has been using Iwobi as one of the two central midfield players lately. I don’t see him as better striker compare to the present ones but from that offensive midfield or the hole behind the strikers, he scored 27 goals or more this season.
Zaidu Sanusi and Chukwueze are always the last set of players to join the team camp.
You didn’t want to mention Osimhen. Always the last person to arrive in camp.
@MuYiwa Osimhen is bigger than this Super Eagles mumu team now seeing as though they want to always surround him with Mediocrity Can you believe people like MONKEY POST saying that Ahmed Musa’s experience is needed in SE before Osimhen quality? Left for me If I was Osimhen and seeing what this SE handlers are turning our Team Camps Into a Real Mediocre Shit Show. I would reject any call up to play for this corrupt set of indivuals and fans like @MONKEY POST who have no back bone!..
Thank God Bukayo Saka Chose England over Nigeria because at the time only weeks before England called him up and capped him for the very first time. I remember debating why Rohr had not called him. Some fans here were saying Musa deserves his place in the team over the likes of Saka being chased that even if Saka chose Nigeria he should be in the youth teams onmly weeks later England called him up and he has not left that 3 lions starting Line up since. But I bet if this Boy Saka by Mistake Chose Nigeria over England, Ahmed Musa would be getting call ups before him he would have been facing what Orban is facing now.
When we say Naija nor sabi good thing. This is a perfect Example
BIG LIER!!!
Abeg DIG UP where I said MUSA EXPERIENCE is needed before OSIMHEN’S QUALITY..
The only thing I said that is close to the RUBBISH you STATED was WE need IGHALO TESTED, TRUSTED and EXPERIENCED LEGS to combine with OSIMHEN’S QUALITY…
And please NO PLAYER is BIGGER than a TEAM!
Don’t ever make that MISTAKE again!
So, you condone indiscipline on the part of a player simply bcos the FA or coach isn’t doing the right thing? So Osimhen is bigger than the SE and Nigeria as a whole. If it was Musa or any other player that you don’t like, I know you wouldn’t be typing this.
For the first time nobody is making sense here!!!!
Let’s here your sensible contribution bro. We learn new thing everyday.
Hahahaha! Guy you are funny!
@Pompei, Abi na. As e get golden Brain wey dey different from others to talk sense.
Look at your lot, now your joy as Nigerian football lovers and supporters has turned to Who arrives first in Camp not the excitement of seeing Nigeria Bringing out her strongest arsenal for battle or seeing our in form stars Filing out to do battle for Nigeria. instead always mediocrity. Chai notting wey we no go see for Naija o LOOOOL!!!!. don’t worry very soon by the time NFF is done with this Super Eagles, Our attention and joy for Super Eagles matches will be who is driving the team bus.
The person that LOVES MEDIOCRITY in this FORUM pass na u @UGO IWUNZE…
I REMEMBER u CELEBRATING DENNIS as if HE was C RONALDO more than any other PATRIOTIC SE PLAYERS..
Now where is the DENNIS???
If the bus driver drives anyhow and kills or injures the coaches and players nko?
If the person driving the team bus drives it safely and productively, that person will be appreciated! Anybody
that has a problem with can go and use their head to scatter Olumo rock!
Yes, the team selection is a cause for concern. Players that should be there on merit have been left out. However, should we fail to appreciate other loyal players who keep showing up when needed, just because
national team selectors have pushed merit aside as a selection criterion?
I mean loyal players in top form. Someone like Iwobi is one of the best box to box midfielders in African football currently. Yet, no ego or arrogance. Keeps showing up for matches when invited, even though he never collect shingbain out of the bonuses they are owing him. You are within your right not to appreciate his efforts, but kindly allow others who appreciate him to go ahead and show it.
Lol @POMPEI ASWEAR u no WELL.
Yes o WE must APPRECIATE everyone even if it’s the BUS DRIVER for their EFFORTS. I mean what if e go DRIVE anyhow go KILL my PLUMPTRE nko(that’s for the FEMALE TEAM)
Hahaha! Monkey Post, don’t mind that fellow.
Na wetin dey shele for this forum be dat ooo. Some guys get so offended when others don’t see issues their way, they start dropping insults left, right and center. Why not read comments and waka pass? Must you insult people when you disagree with them? Ahn ahn!
I think the coach made the right choice with the attackers (minus Musa). May be Moffi for Iheanacho. Akpom can not be selected ahead of Osi and Awo.For the top 9 position is in this order:
Osi, Awo, Moffi, Boniface, Akpom
Support striker: (ilcombination of goals, intelligence, assists, and speed)
Nacho, Dessers, Orban, Tella
Hopefully Akpom and Tella get the opportunity to play in EPL next season.
