Chelsea defender Cesare Azpilicueta has disclosed that the team is more focused on the next game against Morocco in the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup.
Azpilicueta stated this on the backdrop of the team’s 2-1 loss to Japan in their final group game.
Despite the loss, Spain will now face Morocco in the World Cup round of 16.
“The important thing was to qualify for the round of 16,” said Azpilicueta. “We know that in a World Cup there are always times when you have to know how to manage when you are winning or losing. Sometimes it is difficult to manage and this has to serve us for the future.
“Morocco is a team that deserves to be there after competing with teams of the level of Croatia and Belgium.
“We would have liked to win all three games and pass as first because that is our philosophy. You have to have maximum confidence in this group, raise your head and recover.”
