Switzerland commenced their campaign on a winning note after overcoming the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 1-0 in today’s 2022 World Cup clash.
The first half produced lots of excitements as both teams showed great attacking prowess.
Cameroon almost took the lead in the 10th minute but Karl Toko Ekambi’s effort failed to hit the back of the net. It was a sitter that he should have converted.
On the hand, Switzerland had a fair share of the goal scoring chance too as an unmarked Murphy Akanji also failed to direct his header straight into the net.
Swiss were dominant in terms of controlling position and deservedly netted the opening goal in the second half through Breel Embolo’s right foot shot in the 48th minute.
The Indomitable Lions had the chance to level score in the 57th minute but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s shot was saved Sommer.
The victory put Switzerland top of Group G on three points while Cameroon sit bottom on zero point.
Cameroon will next face Serbia while Brazil will tackle Switzerland.

What’s going on team africa? 4 down and NO single goal score yet, let’s hope the last man standing Ghana make us proud later today.
Hhahahaha…..Femi…..All African Teams must have left their determination at home when they were flying to Qatar……LMAOOoooo.
According to some people (some who claim to have played at the highest level), determination is what wins games at the world cup.
1st round of matches gone and no African team is yet to find the back of the net (I dont see Ghana doing so later tonight too….though I will be happy if they can shut me up).
Other parts of the world are evolving into a new order that now involves executing tasks from the results of making informed decisions through careful evaluation of empirical and numerical evidences from past occurences….some illiterates are there propounding unfounded and unvalidated emotional theories……LMAOooo
I have decided not to get involved in that blatant disregard for logic and lack of intuition yet. I will reel out facts and figures for them when the time is ripe.
For now, na siddon look I dey. Time is going to be the greatest judge.
Let’s see where this social experiment of winning world cup games solely on determination leads to.
Cameroon are as good as out,I do not see their poor team getting the better of both Serbia and Brazil.
Switzerland are the better side.Though I didn’t see the first half but the second period was dominated by Switzerland though both teams were knackered hence the walking pace but Switzerland had better control and organisation.
Algeria would have given Switzerland a sterner test.Algeria is a better team than Cameroon who qualified ahead of the Maghreb nation via away goal rule which I think should be scrapped because when two teams finish in a draw it means they are equally matched.A team must have a better goal difference to be ahead that’s how a victory should be judged.
This means Ghana is dangerous! We make mince meat of Switzerland
Ghana has some talented, young players who are technically good and u ll find out in a few mins
Finger cross, really looking for that win from an africa team at least, I just hope u guys prove my instinct wrong. Portugal gat some talent right there.
@Selfmade,do not be too excited.
Ghana’s victory against Switzerland was a friendly which is not competitive,it’s a different ball game in tournament situation.
You think if it were the world cup proper Portugal will destroy the super eagles the way they did? Definitely not!Not saying we are a better team rather the point I was making is friendly games are used to test different situations different patterns and players not necessarily to win,the team that wins may not win the same team in a competitive game.
Bossy, there’s one thing a lot of Nigerians haven’t realized yet, super eagles has no MIDFIELD!!
Until Nigerians fixed their midfield issues, they ll find it difficult forward
I have said this bf boss
I watched that match against Portugal and the first half was just a stroll in the park for Portugal
There are such parks in Qatar for Portugal to stroll through.
Ok bro …. Lol
U ll be shock of the Ghanaian talent on display today
Ghana isn’t only physical but technically good on the ball as well
“Until Nigerians fixed their midfield…”, I keep telling them that, but they never listen. To Nigerians, it is all about using and scoring thru wingers. Against weak teams like Sao Tome, this is effective but not against midfield-playing sides like Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, and yes Ghana.
Nigeria has nothing through the middle, and they have a tendency for letting teams play in the middle. The Nigerian team against Portugal was like a one-armed boxer using only his left arm to score a punch, and giving away mid-field possession to Portugal. In the same way, Costa Rica gave midfield possession away to Spain who play very similarly to Portugal.
Whatever the outcome I know Ghana would battle the Portuguese in midfield. The Portuguese are not going to be dancing and passing the ball like its Christmas against a Ghanaian side with a strong midfield.
& Tristan
Bro u know football
Never underestimate any team with a STRONG MIDFIELD
Portugal isn’t go to OVERRIDE US in the midfield and this is what makes this ghana team dangerous
We battled them BOOT FOR BOOT in the midfield a lot of people are going to be SHOCKED!
We have some serious NATURALLY TALENTED MIDFIELD!!
Thanks bro
Below are the Nigerian midfielders invited for the Portuguese friendly,Ndidi,Iwobi,Etebo,Onyeka and Aribo the five listed are the best we have on paper and they play regularly in the top 5 European football aside Etebo who plays in the Greek elite division.
Our ex German gaffer Rohr used same midfielders above to win lots of games in Africa and beyond.
Our midfield problem started with the new coach Peseiro who plays a man short in the middle a system alien to our boys, you expect the manager to change formation to a system that suit our boys instead the stubborn coach continued with same pattern despite losing four friendlies in a row.
Our midfield problem has nothing to do with the players the coach is responsible for our poor showing so far.
If I can’t say the truth that hurts then I better sit down look. We all know what today’s outcome will be even though we are supporting Africa. Something is Loading!!!
Better luck next time Cameroon. I am really gutted! I hope they aren’t too disheartened. Hopefully they will bounce back stronger in the next fixture.
As for Ghana, I think it will be easier for an elephant to walk through the eye of a needle than for them to manufacture a positive result against Portugal.
Obviously their fans will beg to differ and for their sake one can only hope the Black Stars pick a rabbit out of their West African hat.
But I have a feeling that I will be partying tonight 🙂
The clock is ticking!
Haha so far all ur predictions has come to nothing
Isn’t time for u to revise ur notes bro
U can’t wait for Ghana to lose but becareful of what u wish for u bro lol
🙂
Selfieeeeeee!
We will remain rivals during this world cup period. Afterwards normal service might resume.
🙂
The first half belonged to Cameroon and they could have put the game beyond the reach of the Swiss, but for poor finishing caused by selfishness. Mbuemo and Choupo-Moting preferred blasting the ball at the goalkeeper rather than passing. Selfishness is a problem for African players in African teams, while African players in European teams know they will not get away with that type of behavior. Nigeria is similar with a few players when faced with a low probability one-on-one chance on goal, shooting to score rather than crossing or attempting a pullback for their teammates to score.
Their forwards went for personal glory rather than teamwork and the result is they are almost out of the world cup. Cameroon had determination and aggression but lacked team intelligence in the final third. Whereas look at the swiss goal, it was all passing until Embolo a player in a high-scoring probability position put the ball in the net. Had it been Cameroon, Freuler who provided the assist would not have passed and tried to score from a narrow-angle.
Caf and fifa should stop pairing Ghana and Nigeria together because frankly there’s too much emotions involved lol
No African team will make it out of group stage. They are all to make the number. They will all come home to brag and beat their chest as if they achieve any meaningful results for themselves or their country. Too much gra, gra in African games. Most of them are an average player. How many goals have they scored yet? None. Can Ghana even score any goal in this match? My support for Ghana, but that may not matter.
It can happen!! We can catch Portugal on the break and it ll just take a pass
