Cape Verde head coach, Pedro ‘Bubista’ Leitão has disclosed that they have no regret losing to one of the best teams in Africa.
The Blue Shark lost 2-1 to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Tuesday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Estádio da Várzea.
The hosts took a shock lead through Bryan Tavares, but the Super Eagles levelled after Victor Osimhen reacted quickest to a loose ball.
Gernot Rohr’s men then won the game thanks to a bizarre own goal midway through the second half.
Reacting to the defeat, Bubista stated that he’s proud of his players and their ability to withstand the Super Eagles. He noted that he won’t blame any player for their defeat to Nigeria.
“Cape Verde doesn’t have to feel squeamish about losing to Nigeria.

“Nigeria is one of the best teams in Africa. We have to have the guts and humility to know that Nigeria is also an extremely strong team and losing to Nigeria is not a bad thing.
“An own goal is always difficult. It was a shame because it happened at a time when we were taking over the game, we had refreshed the team.
“But it happens. We are not here to blame anyone individually. In our team we always win together and lose together,” Bubista said at the post-match press conference.

Finally took humble pie
That own goal was spectacularly executed. Brazil 1994 world cup winning striker Romario would have been proud of it. The precision it took to chip the goalie from such distance. It would have been worthy of a Puskas nomination. Just a little problem though – it ended up in the wrong net!
🙂 🙂
That is where the problem came from not that Cape Verde can’t beat the Super Eagles but they had too much respect for our players and Nigeria name.
We were lucky to win that match I must say.
We didn’t play as a team. No creativity. Few shots on target. May be one or two shots on target.
We can really boast of having individual players but we are not good enough as a team.
The midfield wasn’t good enough when we have the likes of Etebo’s team mate, Zubby or something, I can’t remember his name. Also, we have Nwakali and Nwobodo but the coach opted for a player that can get a red card at any time when we did not have the full squad.
That Micheal is a fantastic footballer.
Super Eagles were very lucky to win and I am pleased that we got the 3 points in that match.
Do we have a team yet? Are we ready for Afcon?
Before you say anything, just ask yourself a simple question. Why do I have to lie to myself.
Don’t get me wrong, we have the players that we can choose from but the coaches are not good enough to take Nigeria to the promised land.
Okoye no1? Chai, no wonder that Super Eagles is struggling under Oga Rohr and Oga Agu.
He, Oga Rohr surprised me when he made his substitutions.
He made that substitutions around 70 minutes or something and I was like can’t you see Cape Verde coach ni?
The best time to make subs in that match should be around 50 to 55 minutes of the match but I don’t understand.
Cape Verde really tried and I am impressed.
For we Nigerians since we love to deceive ourselves, Super Eagles was fantastic in yesterday match. Case closed. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
This man always saying trash must you comment if you don’t have any meaningful thing to say?
You don’t have manners you keep taking advantage of the boy everyday, talk your own let him say his as well.
@Dennis don’t mind them. Omo9ja abeg have your say Bros. Your input is most welcomed on CSN
One love bro he just dey talk the guy like say no be person the guy be. The fact say Omo9ja dey quiet for him na curse on its own self.
I guess he’s Buari age mate
I must say something that @omo9ja is doing that we need an extra eye to see. Am a fan of rohr, @omo9ja too is a fan but he has chosen the path of boosting rohr performance by way of criticizing him.
Complaisance should not set in and rohr must continue to improve upon his tactis.Abi @omo9ja? I hope I speak your mind.
Yinkus you have said the rightful word.
Omo9ja is not speaking anybody’s mind and he also is not a fan of Rhor nor the Super Eagles. Anyone one who’s presently suggesting that the coaches of the Super Eagles are not good enough and should be replaced is definitely not a fan.
Omo9ja has been consistent in his campaign for the coaches to be removed and replaced with God knows who. He also claimed that our local coaches would do better than the Eagles coaching crew.
Now the Eagles were lucky to have won the match not because they played well, why wasn’t Cape Verde lucky?.
The coaches are not good enough, the wrong players are always invited to Eagles camp, they are always lucky after victories, bla bla bla. I know deep down inside you are hurting that the Eagles won because it denied you the opportunity to attack Rhor and all the Eagles fan who stand in support of the progress he has made with the Eagles. Do you remember Eagles situation prior to Rhor’s engagement?
According to you Nwakali should have been invited instead of a player you claimed could get a red card. Omo9ja go get a coaching license, get involved with a team and sign on all the players of your dream and stop letting you sentiment and emotions take control of your every thought about the Eagles and the coaching crew.
Your negatives are so obvious and you never disappoint in showing them.
Thank you Dantata. Your views and response are well appreciated. Omo9ja has been hurting since yesterday because we won another away game under the guidance of Gernot Rohr. His incessant negativity on the team and the coaching crew has already become his daily bread. When you ask him to name a capable replacement he will say Amrouche. Like you said deep down inside him he’s hurting that the SuperEagles won yesterday. We had a completely different midfield and a different defensive pairing. The good thing was that Awaziem and Omeruo have played together at club level before. A match in which the SuperEagles totally dominated with almost 60% possession he’s here saying we were lucky why is Cape Verde not lucky?? Abeg help me ask am. Anyone who know Omo9ja very well from the days of KIckoff Nigeria. He was the one who gave Keshi the moniker of gather and play. He criticized Keshi all the way to his grave. That’s the kind of human he is. That’s why I never take his comments seriously because I eventually realized he’s not making any sense whatsoever. I’m sure he’s been banging his head on the wall since the victory last night. Lmao!!! Awon Oluya.
@Aphiliydegreat I remember clearly during the World Cup It was you if I am not mistaking who visted the camp and shared a drink with Keshi at the Hotel pub sharing a video of that on the KickoffNigeria Platform, if My memory serves me correctly because it is I @Muna Iwunze from KickoffNigeria days.
I will always maintain Keshi is one coach who tactically is on a level higher than Rohr no doubt. Keshi’s Problem was that, the winning of the Afcon 2013 gave rise to over confidence and over pompousness that is what finished Keshi and Nigeria’s relationship ,because if you remember at the time of his death he an pinnick were at logger heads as pinnick was still campaigning for our hearts hence him signing for Orlando Pirates.
Keshi felt bigger than Nigeria to the point of collecting bribes from agents to include players like Michael Babatune (Playing in Ukraine 2nd division at the time), Gabriel Ruben (Whose introduction agaisnt France cost us the game). Michael Uchebo (this proves i am no biggot) Juwon Oshaniwa i can go on and on…Players who after the World Cup faded to obscurity contrary to Keshi’s Claims they had big clubs after them. I saw through that lie.. Keshi was the reason we dropped from winning an AFcon to missing out on 2 consecutive AfCON’s any body in their right minds cannot celebrate Keshi’s Tennure as SE coach after 2014. I still maintain had Sentiments and Corruption not creeped into Keshi’s Seclection for the Confed Cup 2013 and World Cup 2014. We would have beating France in the round of 16. Had Keshi selected a stronger bench much like Rohr is doing now (excpet Musa) we would have gone to Quarters.
Don’t also forget Keshi’s Actions also ruined career’s the most painful still being Ezekiel Imoh.
I an Ideal coach for SE now will be a combination of Keshi’s Tactics and Rohr’s selcetion. As I have a felling that Rohr’s hands are tied when it comes to Musa, those orders are from Buhari’s Cabinet
*Nobody* in their right minds can celebrate Keshi’s Tenure as SE coach after 2013*. He Failed In 2014 because if we remember clearly Nigerians wanted Quater Finals. That was the mandate. and Keshi took a Weakened Squad to the World Cup how can you celebrate that?.. I mean who in thier right minds takes Michael Uchebo over Victor Anichebe,
Or Michael Babatunde over Ezekiel Imoh and also Leaving Nosa Igiebor at home and taking Gabriel Ruben I mean these were some of the dodgy calls he made at the time.
Yes @ugo you’re right I’m the one. I was with the team all through that WorldCup campaign in 2014. Keshi was ok before the AFCON triumph, but lost it afterwards. However, Omo9ja has been criticizing him way before he won the AFCON in South Africa. You see there’s nothing wrong in criticizing a coach, but calling for his sack when even the dead can attest to the good work he’s doing with the SuperEagles means Omo9ja is not in his right senses. As for Ahmed Musa he’s the captain of the team. I’m sure you didn’t complain when Keshi took Yobo to the WorldCup or when Westerhoff took Keshi to the WorldCup. Musa is playing regularly in Turkey therefore, by merit he deserves to be in the team. Kalu has not really been consistent no thanks to injuries and other circumstances. Chukwueze is not currently match fit. Onyekuru and Ejuke are playing in Russia and Greece. Maybe an Ademola Lookman can be a real competitor for Musa, but he will be in the team as long as he’s playing regularly in Turkey take it or leave it.
I sincerely think Omoniaja is not mentally okay, i really wonder how he brings Rohr to all his discussion, most times the subject matter will not be related to SE or Rohr, but in his comment he must find a way to mention Rohr, na wa oooo! its like your hatred for Gernet Rohr is affecting your psyche and its driving you crazy. you better slow down, because more disappointment is coming your way. your expectation of Gernet Rohr and SE will always come to nought.
People of this forum should let @omonaija be, he have right to his opinion, you either agree or disagree shikena.
Omo9ja isn’t mentally stable. I’ve seen him criticize Rohr countless times even when rorh performs. Prior to rorh taking charge, we were ranked 72nd in the world and 16th in Africa. Now we are ranked 35th in the world and top 4 in Africa. Can Rohr do better? Yes he can with the right support.
Omo9ja said we should sack our coach just because Egypt sacked theirs. He’s always hoping we lose our match so he can gloat but he’s been disappointed. Unless we are getting a coach better than Rohr, then he stays
When was the last time we had fans singing all we are saying, give us one goal? When was the last time we had about fight in the camp? When was the last time we saw players turn up late to camp? When was the last time we had to use calculators with higher grade of combination and permutations to see our chances of qualifying for tournaments? We now qualify with ease and some clown thinks he knows better than Rohr.
Rorh is here to stay and if you aren’t comfortable with that, buzz off
