Legendary Nigerian striker Mercy Akide has described the Super Falcons 2-1 loss to South Africa in their 2022 WAFCON Group C opened as disappointing.
After a goalless first half, South Africa netted two quick goals to race into a 2-0 lead thanks to Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hildah Magaia.
Rasheedat Ajibade pulled a goal back for the Falcons in added time but it was just a consolation goal as the South Africans held on to claim all three points.
The win was South Africa’s third against the Falcons in the history of the WAFCON.

Also, it is their third win (one loss) in the last four meetings against the African champions.
And reacting to the defeat, Akide urged the Falcons players not to despair.
“Disappointing result. But we still believe in our @NGSuper_Falcons,” she wrote on Twitter.
“Keep your head up, move on to the next and keep #GoingFor10.”
The team has the chance to bounce back when they face debutant Botswana on Thursday.

Atisat ishiola is becoming too useless to us, like aubamiyang was to Gabon. Waste chances and do no arms. Oshiola is the most celebrated attacker in falcons history but she has been the list effective so far! As far as i have been watching the falcons. The only time she impressed is under 20.
Among all the big strikers or players we have relied on in falcons, mercy akide. Vera okoli, stella mbachu, nadozie, cythia uduak etc oshiola has been the worse despite all her championsleague and personal glory. I think her boyfriend have to leave this girl for us first. To serve with all her strenght.
It’s not my fault that she’s not performing well. I think the coach should stop them from using TikTok and selfie. I watched their training, all what they do is do TikTok, take selfie and facetime shit instead of them to concentrate on the task ahead. Go to super falcon page on IG and other social media, you will see what am talking about. Other national teams like south Africa and Zambia are catching up. Lemme burst your bubble, I won’t be surprised if we don’t make it to the world cup with this mentality.
The girls are poorly coached.
There is nothing to suggest there have been an improvement in that team since Omagbemi left the job.
