Flamingos skipper Alvine Dah-Zossu say me she and her teammates will do everything possible to beat Germany and win the third-place match at the U-17 women’s World Cup in India.
The Flamingos lost 6-5 on penalties against Colombia in the semi-final on Wednesday.
Omamuzo Edafe had the opportunity to send Nigeria into the final but saw her decisive kick come off the post.
Comfort Folorunsho then missed her attempt during sudden death which cost the Flamingos a place in Sunday’s final.
On their part, the Germans lost 1-0 to reigning U-17 women’s champions Spain, in the second semi-final and will hope to end the tournament on a high by beating the Flamingos a second time.

In their first meeting in the group stage the Germans came From a goal behind to win 2-1.
And Dah-Zossu, who expressed sadness over the painful defeat to Colombia, stated that they have picked themselves up and will make sure they come out tops against the Germans.
“Wednesday’s defeat was really devastating, we wanted to play in the final but we didn’t make it,” Dah-Zossu wrote on Twitter.
“We were pained and heart broken last night, I want to apologize to our fans that believed in us. We have picked ourselves up and will do all we can to win the bronze medal.“

By the time the match starts, 8 of the players would have played over 7 hours of football in the tourney. With battered confidence and meeting your previous conqueror to boot, I hope the scoreline will not be sheer embarrassing.
You cannot give what you have not. The same pattern, coaches, players will make for an uninspiring match.
Playing a more chiselled and sleek brand of football will be nice.
If you manage to grab the bronze medal against Germany on Sunday, at least you would have managed to equal Ghana’s achievement at this level. Additionally, you would finally break the hoodoo hanging of the Flamingos as the only age grade Nigeria team across gender yet to attain a podium finish in Fifa tournaments.
Exactly 10 years ago in Azerbaijan, a delicious solitary goal from Priscilla Okyere was all it took for Ghana to claim 3rd place in that year’s Under-17 women’s world cup. And who were the opponents? You guessed it: Germany.
So, the German ladies will be eager to avoid West African thunder striking them twice whilst the Flamingos of Nigeria will have to weather German storm if they are to prevail.
I have to apologise to whoever is offended but the Flamingos’ brand of football in this tournament has been nauseating at times. Average to poor first touches, clumsy and haphazard movements, disjointed choreography, rudimentary attacking initiatives and all round approach that fails to capture my imagination and leaves me ‘not’ yearning for more.
But, one thing they have that worked for them in this tournament is impeccable work ethics and excellent work rate. What they did might not have been beautiful but it was effective in giving all their opponents headache.
These girls can be really proud of themselves, whatever the outcome of Sunday’s game and a vast majority of fans are proud of them.
They were let down by a horrible system that fails to truly harness they skills and potentials of talents available to the coaches. What coaches? Coaches that are chronically one dimensional. But, the coaches too deserve credit for at least leading the girls this far.
Good luck on Sunday, ladies. We love you all!
Numbers 17,15,3,8,20 they don’t look kids at all!!
Omo Ghana..Thank you
This is what I don’t like with our girls they use mouth to play and boast like it will turn against them like Colombia game why not keep quiet do ur thing’s after the game u can now tell how u Cage them and Win..then keep quiet again and Play the next game One after another but this mouth boasting is costing them alot damage but they don’t take their lessons
I’m sorry to say that our girls wasted their chance of getting one of the three medals in this competition.
It’s easy to beat Colombia than to beat Germany.
It’s good to talk positively.
Unless if God intervene, our girls can’t beat Germany.
