A goal in each half by Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze, earned the Super Eagles a 2-0 win against Cameroon club side Coton Sport in a practice game in Garoua on Friday.
The game was arranged as part of preparation for the Eagles ahead of their 2021 AFCON Group D opener against Egypt on Tuesday.
Musa opened scoring in the first half before Chukwueze doubled the Eagles’ lead in the second half.

Starting for the Eagles in the friendly were Maduka Okoye in goal, Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo and Zaidu Sanusi in defence.
The midfield had Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo and Chidera Ejuke while Kelechi Iheanacho, Musa and Taiwo Awoniyi led the attack.
In the course of the first half Musa was replaced by Alex Iwobi.
Prior to the start of the second half, Francis Uzoho, Olisa Ndah, Semi Ajayi, Chidozie Awaziem, Frank Onyeka, Kelechi Nwakali, Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Sadiq Umar were introduced.
Iwobi and Sanusi were the only players from the first half who retained their places.
However, Iwobi later made way for Henry Onyekuru and Umar was replaced by Peter Olayinka.
Meanwhile, there will be another practice game between the Eagles first and second eleven.

Who is this one na? What is here for you to celebrate? Oh! Am so disgusted with some of you fans mehn.. you are celebrating a very mediocre performance… Naija when did we get here and how??? If this friendly was played under GENERAL ROHR and it ended 2-0, you guys would have been calling for his head.. But since it’s your own, you guys are throwing fireworks celebrating… LMAO! Give Algeria this team you will see 9-0…
You need your head to be screwed!!…Make Rohr kill you there , stupid nonsense!!
Na you they allow that guy matter enter your head, have told you guys here times without NO, the guy with the most unbalance and unnecessary comment in this forum is that guy, he is just attention seeker, ignore him men.
Ignore Monkey Post. There are some comments you don’t follow or react to.
Learn how to appropriate little things first, secondly if you watch the match you will see they are scared to get injured so they are playing softly. Nigerians and their wahala
Abeg don’t give me that … Algeria that played a top opponent Ghana and still came out with 3 nil were not scared of injury abi..
Truth be told, your coach choose this friendly because he is scared of getting exposed as a fake ass! Not all those lame excuses he deceived you all with
@Monkey Post I still don’t understand your obsession with Gernot Rohr. When will you stop living in the past?
@MonkeyPost, u want to compare monkey post with normal football post?
You want to compare Algeria,Egypt,Ghana dem with Nigeria. U nor know when dey employ Eguavoen?
Instead of u to dey blame NFF, you are busy blaming a new coach, who has not coached one official match and even comparing him to countries who have old coaches.
Which level na? Wetin dey happen?
Let him play clubsides na im fit NFF and the coach is doing the sensible thing to do at this late hour.
@Monkey Post, no raise dust here, your point nor hold water pls
The match between Nigeria and eagles I watch a week ago . Anyway no wahala ..it not the coach fault. The score is likely goin to make me more enemy . But eagles will play in the final. I ve learnt my lesson not to say wat I saw…let me just say the sweet one …
Egypt not eagles
I NO FI LAUGH OO
MONKEY POST I BELIEVE YOU.
WE ARE ALL SENTIMENTAL IN NIGERIA
foolish comment from monkey as usual.
GERNOT ROHR, IT IS YOU, YOU WILL MAKE ONLY TWO SUBSTITUTIONS THROUGHOUT THE 90 MINUTES. AND THAT IS WHY MOST TIMES NIGERIA COMPLAIN ABOUT YOU.
THOUGH IAM ONE OF YOUR FANS BUT YOU ARE THE ARCHITECT OF YOUR FAILURE. YOU LACK TECHNICALITY IN MAKING QUICK SUBSTITUTIONS IN A MATCH.
You getty they pointy now…that’s jus it.
I jus tire for Rohr and he will not hear word.
Coaching a country like Nigeria can launch you to juicier jobs if you do well; now see am,for him to get big job go hard.
I NO FI LAUGH OO
MONKEY POST I BELIEVE YOU.
WE ARE ALL SENTIMENTAL IN NIGERIA
2-0 SE with all European experience haba Nigerians do not deserve this to be sincere… As far the team did not concede any goal I will still give them thumbs up but more work have to be done with this kind result this SE will just fail to bring gold home.
God help your SE
Which European experience baba? The boys from Europe, don’t they have coaches in Europe?Do they coach themselves? Abi did Guardiola start doing well immediately he took over City?
Why many Nigerians dey talk like say dem nor dey watch ball sef? Which day dey appoint Eguavoen here? Normally we nor even suppose get hope for this tournament. If na Europe this kain late appointment happen,eg England or Spain, they will tell themselves the truth and not expect much from the Euros.
We we go just dey get hope as if Egypt,Algeria,Ghana dem nor get European based players. Me I retain my hope sha, but no be d one I go dey vex for this friendly, that God bless us with talents specially. There is not enough time for coaching but individual talents can push us through and our boys get one character of not having fear for any team. The coach too get some Cup of Nations experience.
So go Eagles!
IS STILL OLD DESIGN JERSEY THEY USED FOR QUALIFIERS NIGERIA WILL STILL WEAR FOR THIS YEAR AFCON.
IF IT IS, THAT MEAN
** SHAME ON NFF !!!
** SHAME ON NIGERIA!!!
@ I dey shame, you should be ashamed of yourself.just like.your name.
Well done guys ,nice game,I’m only worried about Awoniyi,I’ve never he scored a goal in training, was thinking he might get one today but we move .
Playing against a club that has cohesion as an advantage and defeating them without conceading is a plus…..SE always surprise you when you write them off totally……I am beginning to smell a surprise from SE in this Afcon……fingers crossed.
You getty they pointy now…that’s jus it.
I jus tire for Rohr and he will not hear word.

No time, no time…Oga for your information, Thomas tuchel is proof that you don’t need lengthy amount of time to make an instant impact as a coach…
Ahahaaaaaaah! Now eagles is playing good football, see cohesion and team work even Musa who the former coach used to take bribe to select even started in our “own” team and scored fantastic goal and see as Chukwueze dey dribble everyone to scored that lovely goooooal… Afcon here we come to lift the cup cos our “own” is really ready and can’t wait to start on Tuesday. Did I hear some people saying it’s the first game so they need time to gel think it’s our own world class coaches on the wheel and thought our individual players are still there maybe the just play with Cotton sport otherwise that would have wallop them like 10:0 lol
That’s true, there was cohesion and team work!!
breaking news! – Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia finally release Odion Ighalo for AFCON. He is on his way to Garoua, Cameroun on a private jet to join Super Eagles.
Is it true Ighalo is coming to Afcon? That would be a great news for me.
Please how sure are you?
My comments are unbalanced and unnecessary.. LMAO!! How did you know?? LMAO!!! you must have an unbalanced brain, to actually have all the time in the world to be reading all my comments in this forum to actually figured that all are unbalanced…(cos na mad man dey fit easily identify him colleague) LMAO!!!!
@Oge if you have ever played monkey post on the streets then you will know it’s more difficult compared to this ajebo shit you guys are playing and still coming up with mediocre performance.. You dare disrespect a street game played on tiny and little spaces with tiny goal post?? SMH…
We can argue on this all day long if I marshal out my points @Monkey Post, but that is not the discussion here AND YOU KNOW THAT. Let me copy me post to remind you of our focus:
“..You want to compare Algeria,Egypt,Ghana dem with Nigeria. U nor know when dey employ Eguavoen?

Una no go tell una selves truth for this forum, I opened this news expecting that people will be expecting SE to do better than this. If this were to be Rohr he’s dead already. Why are you celebrating every where. Even if you feel nothing is bad with the match being his first match, then is not supposed to be the way people are sounding on this forum as if we have qualified for AFCON final already. If Algeria can beat Ghana 3-0 then there is a lot to be worried about. My hope is for the team to get better before the competition proper. All the same I see Egypt beating us 1-0, but if we win, I will be very happy and I can start believing in the team to do well not with 2-0 against coton sport for where God forbid bad thing
@Jide Dola a team with a high scoring record does not necessarily best a team with a low scoring record.
Some teams don’t score loads but are very organized.Scoring lots of goals does not necessarily win you a tournament.Thats why some high scoring sides exit tournaments by a lone goal most times against teams that don’t score plenty.
The game is more like a kick about it’s not a serious friendly game remember in a few days we got Egypt so playing safe is very important.
My brother @Jide Dola help me tell them ooo…the truth is always bitter.. when we open mouth to tell them, Dem go say we are looking for attention..
Go and seat ur ass somewhere joor, you know dey shame nii?
Call my comments foolish or even me foolish. I don’t care.. All I care about is refusing to be part of Failure
What failure?
If you don’t appreciate little things in life forget big achievement coming your way I remembered when Germany won 2006 World Cup if am right their build up matches were just simple clubs and people were like they didn’t test them very well however when the game started they beat all teams to lift the cup . You don’t play big teams few hours to the start of a tournament. Keep your expectations about the team we don’t care about it and just enjoy the tournament. If we are to rank countries based on governing Nigeria will come last of all the countries in the tournament we have the poorest FA by management scale and we are the most corrupt nation yet our teams perform as though we are well governed. let’s just watch the tournament as though nothing is happening in Nigeria . Am on the street here and I know the mindset of ordinary Nigeria they don’t care about the organizational ineptitude of the FA all they want is Nigeria will win and funny enough it works for us most times. Nations that have better organizations can not boast of playing in the semi final of every nation they have participated like Nigeria. Let’s be grateful for this uncommon grace while also showing out grievances on how things are being run. But now let enjoy the atmosphere.
Oga Germany didn’t win 2006 World Cup, Italy did. In fact, Italy knocked out Germany in the semifinal (with goals from Grosso and Del Piero). Italy then beat France in penalty shootout (in the final) after Zidane was sent-off for a headbutt on Marco Matarazzi.
Oga, Germany player 21 Grade A friendly matches before the 2006 world cup including matches against Brazil, France, Italy, Netherlands, Argentina etc. Which “simple clubs” are you talking about….? Which sensible coach or FA use “simply clubs” to assess the strength of their team before a major tournament….?
A club is more organized than a national team……In a club the players play together week in week out no matter how low the league they play in……..A national team has better players but they are not compact and cohesive as a team like a club would be……..At least beating a club and getting a clean sheet is not bad for a start at all…….I think we should get over the sacking of Rhor and move on because most bitter critics here are just been critical because their man Rhor was sacked on the eve of the tournament……..I feel their pain but your team still remains your team……..Many Chelsea fans where bitter when Lampard was sacked and that is understandable given that he was a club legend who gave all to the club but the fans rallied around tuchel immediately he was appointed and we all know how it ended…….. Soldier go soldier come barracks remain…….SE is bigger than Everyone talkless of coach Rhor who is not even connected in any way to SE except been a former coach……..so why beefing your team because of a foreigner?
Thank you brother. You’ve said it all.
We suppose talk say make some idiots on this forum kneel down and raise their hands with the type of mentality they carry…lol
With the look of things, some people on this forum might end up hanging themselves seeing our own at the side lines in Afcon. They just hate him and can’t wait to see him fail. Unfortunate animals posting gibberish. They will never get over the sack of Rohr and they will always open that their maggot filled mouth waaa to say nonsense.
Since we are celebrating our victory over Cotton sports, are we playing Al Ahly of Egypt or Pharaohs, the national team on Tuesday?
I don’t know how it easy for someone to insult people on this forum just bcos someone is giving his opinion. You will never see me insult anyone bcos I did not grow up my father and mother insulting themselves. And @Akp nothing like bitterness here, everybody want super eagles to do well I personally want SE to do well irrespective of who’s there as the coach. When peseira was appointed I was against it and I said nff should have waited till the end of AFCON to see what aguavon can achieve before hiring another. And my point has nothing to do about bitterness, Rohr has gone and gone for good is Nigeria SE that needs to move forward. He has done his part and no coach will be in a team forever. No matter who is there result is expected. And believing SE could do better is no bitterness of any form.
@Jide Dola thanks for schooling that him…I mean I shouldn’t be arguing with some people atall… Germany won 2006 world cup??? SMH…
@John-I I mean to say. Thank you for schooling him..
Why not wait and see them play first in the turnament before complaining. A 2-0 scoreline against Cotonsport in a practice game is not bad at all, besides that, you don’t show your opponents what you can do before games.
Ghana and Algeria game was a top friendly not a practice game, and that does not mean that Ghana is not good and Algeria will win the cup; it doesn’t add up. You will be surprise to see Algeria and Egypt flops, this is football. I think there will be a lot of surprises coming from teams like Burkina faso, Mali, Cape verde and Gambia. I still believe that Nigeria will win the cup in Cameroun, it’s our tine and destiny, it doesn’t matter who the coach is, and we will beat Cameroun enrout to the cup.
Destiny? Hahahahaha piknic and his gang has already sacrificed the destiny of Nigerian football for the the brown fat envelope.. LMAO!!
