2019 U-17 World Cup: Golden Eaglets Begin Quest For Sixth Title, Face Hungary Today
Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will begin their chase for a sixth title when they take on Hungary in their opening game at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil today (Saturday) , reports Completesports.com.
Manu Garba’s boys finished in fourth position at the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Tanzania early in the year and but will hope to put a better showing this time around in Brazil.
Nigeria have an enviable record at this level having been champions in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.
The Eaglets were runners up on three occasions, at Canada 1987, Trinidad and Tobago 2001 and 2009 when Nigeria hosted the youth tournament.
The West Africans also hold the record for the highest number of goals scored in a single competition at this level.
It will be second meeting between Nigeria and Hungary at the U-17 level, with the Eaglets edging out the Europeans 3-1 at the quarter-final stage in 1985.
The game billed to hold at the Estadio Olimpico, Goiania will kick-off at 9pm Nigerian time.
