Schurrle Realistic But Still Upbeat

Forward Andre Schurrle admits Fulham face a huge battle to avoid relegation but insists there is still belief at the club. The 28-year-old gave the Cottagers an early lead against Burnley on Saturday with a superb strike, but two own goals handed the Clarets all three points at Turf Moor and consigned the Londoners to their 14th Premier League defeat of the season.
It has been a campaign of woe by the Thames to date, with just three wins so far to sit 19th in the standings – five points from safety.

The arrival of former Premier League-winning manager Claudio Ranieri has not seen the expected lift and Schurrle confessed that he is struggling to adjust to life near the foot of the table, having won the Premier League with Chelsea and the World Cup in Germany’s colours. “It’s not easy. I’ve never been involved in something like this,” he said. “It’s not easy to adapt to losing a lot. It’s not what I am used to, so I have to put my qualities for the team and try to score a bit more.”

The former Wolfsburg ace, who is on loan at Fulham from Borussia Dortmund, realises that they need to start turning things around straight away but made it clear nobody is throwing in the towel just yet. “We are deep, deep, deep in trouble. It’s not in our own hands, but there is hope and belief,” he added.
